Ahem. Rummy's 9/11 "Freedom Walk" has sponsors.
From the link on the DOD website
(http://www.asyfreedomwalk.com/about.html):

Q: Who is supporting the Freedom Walk?

R: The America Supports You Freedom Walk enjoys the support of Stars and Stripes newspaper, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Subway, Lockheed Martin, The Washington Post, WTOP Radio Network, and ABC WJLA-TV Channel 7 & NewsChannel 8, among others.

AND...

You have to register, go through screening, and wear an official "America Supports You" lapel pin.

What a crock! I was planning to go and hand out enlistment forms, but I'm sure they won't let me in.

The goal for the 5th anniversary in 2006 is for each state to host a Freedom Walk in order to provide an opportunity for as many citizens as possible to reflect on the importance of freedom.

13. Yeah, I'm all of a sudden a Quiznos fan.
Subway is the kind of sandwich I eat every so often, then I lose my taste for it.

Just the fact that they're sponsoring something like this makes me cringe.

15. A pet peeve of mine ....
.... I'm not one to personally confront people regarding their personal opinions. But I really have to wonder if Hitler and Nazi comparisons are appropriate.

First of all, they're really offensive to a lot of people.

Second, they've become somewhat of a cliche.

Third, I think it becomes easier to paint progressive thinkers and enterprises as "kook left fringe" ..... or some other such label ...... when people can come and see these sorts of things thrown around casually.

Just my two cents ..... I'll put on my asbestos underwear now ....

18. Then I suggest that you go back and read your history friend
Hitler didn't spring full blown, with death camps and the attendant violence, from the man's head. Hitler built the movement gradually, slowly but sure bringing the bubbling pot of fascism and dictatorship to a boil in such a way that the ordinary German wasn't aware or alarmed until it was too late.

This is what is happening now, in this country. The slow, but sure convergence of government and corporations, the gradual reduction in civil liberties, the increasing use of propaganda, etc. etc. All the pieces are in place, and they are all now in play.

I know several old Germans who went through Nazi Germany, and without exception they all are expressing alarm at what is going on in this country, and yes, they are, without exception, making comparisons to the early years of Hitler's Germany.

So go back and do some research for yourself. Compare where we are, what is happening in this country with the events and actions in 1934-35 Germany. See for yourself just how America has gone down that dark, evil road.

21. Exactly.
Duing the 20s Hitler was just a fringe character nobody took seriously, but he gradually built up enough support (exploiting Germany's economic problems and the humilation of losing WWI) to get himself democratically elected to the position of Chancellor. And it was all dowhill from there. But these days, if you mention Hitler's name when discussing the Bush administration, people throw hissy fits about how "He's not as bad as Hitler! How can you say that, you just look silly and hysterical!" Well, guess what: Even Hitler wasn't "as bad as Hitler" when he first got started. He built his evil regime over many years, gradually eroding Germany's liberty, suppressing free speech and brainwashing the people into believing they were the Master Race, justifying the scapegoating of the Jews and eventual genocide. No, Bush isn't as bad as Hitler. Yet. But there are plenty of very alarming developments suggesting that if left unchecked, Bush and his stooges would happily lead this country down the road to some form of fascism. If we mention those parallels maybe we can reverse the trend. The Germans -- an educated, "first world" people much like us -- got suckered. We need to pay attention to history and not let it happen to us.

All the parallels to the early Third Reich are there.

We might as well call this the Fourth Reich.

24. Germans didn't get suckered
They were just average people, like in the US, who were afraid to speak out and be sent to a concentration camp. However the vast majority of Germans thought of concentration camps as holding camps. They didn't have the connotation then as they do now. Even the US had concentration camps here where Germans and German Jews were held. I know there was on in Oswego, NY and as a child my husband used to go to the fence and run errands for them.

Once you lose your freedom of speech you shut up and mind your own business. You do it to protect your family. There were many who worked underground against the Nazi movement. My father was in an underground movement, even as a German soldier.

25. A Far Better Term is 'Early Nazis" or something similar.
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 05:40 PM by Vinnie From Indy
No philosophy ever just popped into existence. The enduring ones were sparked, grew and finally bloomed after reaching a tipping point. The Nazis didn't start wholesale, mechanized killing until the latter part of their reign of worldwide terror. So far, I have seen many similarities between BushCo. and The Nazi regime and to deny these similarities is foolish. BushCo., at THIS point in time of their ascendancy, is not racking up the same death count, but they are most definitely headed down the totalitarian highway (sometimes called "Cult of Personality Parkway"). BushCo seems to be headed into the abyss and taking us all with them.

The first 1000 people there get the pins, so get there early!

Remember now, this is an event about FREEDOM, so prepare to be screened and searched. :wtf: Is shrub going to make an appearance or something?

When you go to the signup page, they of course want your name, address, phone number, and e-mail. They don't ask for a specific date of birth, but break it down into three choices: 1. Adult, 2. Teen, 11-17 (WAIT - My eleven year old is a teen???), 3. 10 or Younger Does think sound like they're breaking it down into potential recruiting groups? Oh, and they want your shirt size - XL, L, M. If you need a small, tough shit.

I hope all Bush's supporters show up and give their information.

out walking around, handing $20 bills to make sure people come.

And for that matter, can you even for a moment visualize this Old Goat, out leading a march? Not on your life.

He won't be there. He'll push out his lackey weasel General Miller to do his bidding. RumsFool can't motivate people. All he can do it - kill them.:smoke:
