Let SCOTUS overturn Roe v. Wade...watch Repug Party implode
I've had it with the Repugs waving to their base that they will overturn Roe v. Wade and actually not really wanting to do so...they know that any moderates (which I believe are a lot), women and those who support Roe v. Wade (over 70% in US do) would leave the Repuglican Party in droves and the party would implode into its small neocon theocratic base. Then they will eat themselves in a pathetic self-grandizing crusade of who is holier than the other.

Let's let them take the bait. Go ahead, Repugs! Overturn Roe v. Wade. Watch all hell break loose.

Hopefully, these neocons in the Supreme Court do it before the 2006 Elections.

We need a Repug bloodbath and this would certainly put it over the edge.

1. It won't be that dramatic
I think they will, however, chip away at Roe v. Wade until it is essentially overturned, just not all at once.

2. Watch the Dem party implode as well
because if that happens and the Dems don't fight "to the death" to protect my human rights as a woman--I'm gone, money and all. I daresay I will not be alone by any stretch.

8. It depends on how they fight
There is more than a frontal assault as far as options. Sometimes you need to retreat in order to eventually gain ground. Lure the enemy into a quagmire of their own, or a trap.

If the Democrats stand up and force a war of attrition on this one, at this point, they'll not only lose, but we'll see a Republican Congress in full majority able to do ANYTHING they want and the Democrats will be absolutely powerless to stop them.

We have to fight smart. The Dems have to fight, but they can't shut down the government or something extreme like that, or everyone loses.

10. Not a problem.
The democratic party hasn't had a problem being the party of abortion rights, despite a couple of dissents.

3. The blood bath would include women losing blood from a
botched abortion.

4. I was thinking the same thing.
The majority of Republican women also support abortion rights. If a conservative court overturns Roe, they will not vote GOP again.

If Roe is overturned, states will enact their own abortion laws. Women in bible belt states have the most to lose. Maybe this will finally force them to rethink allowing fat, rich, white, republican men to run the country and their lives!!

5. It won't be done that way
First, late term abortion will be prohibited. So, women late in their pregnancy who may die and the fetus is likely to die will be forced to carry to term. Women will die or be disabled but it will get no press since so few women have late term abortions.

Then states will be allowed to require parental notification. So the young girl raped by her father will be forced to carry to term. Again, no press since she's in no position to tell her story.

Then the friend who drives that young girl across state lines to have an abortion will be thrown in jail. Again, no press.

Doctors will be prevented from telling poor patients about abortion. Again no press because this doesn't affect rich, white folks.

Then, thugs will be allowed to threaten doctors and patients entering abortion clinics. Again, it's just their right to protest. Oh, anti-war protesters will be put in free speech zones miles from the press but that's OK for National security.

Remember now...we have to focus on Rove because that's more important. :argh:

7. It would take time for the states to fully overturn the law
That would be enough time to clean house. I could see the Democrats pulverizing the Repugs in 2006 and 2008.

Although I know that it would be a risk, it would certainly open people's eyes as to what the Repugs REALLY stand for.

I'm seeing that Roberts will probably get in...and since the votes to stop him will not happen, let them take the bait and show their real cards.

They must be exposed and trounced on.

9. I don't think it will take long at all.
I suspect some states still have the laws on the books, others have passed laws *in anticipation* of an overruling of Roe.

In any event, the reddest states will pass a law in ten minutes.

11. They outlaw abortions again and I'm joining the underground railroad
to get women safe abortions. We already have the infrastructure in place, we just go underground, just like during prohibition. When a right that most people believe in is legislated out, people just go underground and continue to do what they were doing, only you turn good citizens into criminals.

Need to buy stock in overseas companies that make RU486, the morning after pill and the abortion pill. They are going to be selling for a pretty penny here in the US.

I told my husband to plan on bailing me out of jail, because I'm not letting my rights go quietly, you can bet your bottom dollar.

13. I'd really like to think that it would implode...
but with the media leaning so heavily torward support of the Republican party I doubt that there is anything they could do that would cause their party to implode. The media is owned by mega corporations that don't give a rats ass about Roe V. Wade and hence it won't get much coverage when it's overturned. The IMPORTANT Middle Americans won't hear about it, won't know about, or if they do, will be told it's a win for them.

17. Frame the debate such that when a judge votes against...
reproductive rights (be it against abortion or contraception) advertise the who nominated the judge and who voted for the judge. If I am on the right track here most of the judges appointed by repuke presidents will be ruling against reproductive rights. The only real issue is will the media take the ball and run with it?

Consider it our nuclear option.

16. I tend to agree with you.
I think the pukes are already on a slippery slope since they control everything and any poll that you look at suggests that Americans are not happy with the way things are.

I hope they get some of their more extreme notions put in place. They'll pay the price plenty when the average Joe realizes that it's right wing kooks that are making law.

18. Polls on abortion are always 60 + % for keeping roe v wade
Let them start stripping womens rights from the constitution, see what happens to them. Removing constitutional rights would turn a LOT of people off. Most republicans would have their 13 year old daughter get an abortion in a heartbeat. I say, let them do it. Then sit back and watch the show.

20. It will implode because ....
the same privacy right that the Supreme Court has found in a combination of rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights ensures the right to birth control and privacy as to some other things that Republicans will agree with us should be private. Republicans just haven't thought the abortion issue through. If they had, they would understand that it isn't a matter just of what happens to fetuses. It's a matter of what happens to their own personal medical information and other information. We have already allowed the government and big business to find out too much about our personal lives. We need to end the snooping. We can't have a democracy when whoever happens to be in charge of the government can find out so much about us. We have the right to know the government's business, not the other way around.
