I think the racial politics of this, he being another white guy (and thus a very dependable right winger--with apologies to the liberal white guys here at DU, since you are rather exceptional), which this country never does not engage in, make it possible to filibuster the guy since a particularly gutless corps of Democrats would never vote against a minority or even a woman, no matter how backward they were.
