So I Had a Thought: Maybe I should run for Mayor when I am of Age.....
Right now I am 16 (well next sunday i will be) and I want to change my town for the better, so I think I should run for Mayor. While I know I wont be able to run in 2006 when the next election is, I may stick around to run in 2010.

Although I am defiantly going to College in 2008 when I graduate High School, I was thinking that being mayor would be a great way to kick off my political career.

My town has about 3,000 residents and a really poor mayor and council. I was thinking if I went to college somewhere nearby and commuted back and forth I would still live in town so I could run for Mayor.

I am pretty confident I would win because unlike most I have a greater knowledge of our towns real values. Unlike our current city government I wouldn't turn my back as more and more jobs slip out of the town, I wouldn't downplay the fact that more and more are falling beyond the poverty level. I would welcome the creation of new jobs so that this small town would grow to its full potential.

I would put real leadership back in city government and real work back into our city.

So what do you think. For someone wanting to start off their life as a politician do you think this would be the best route to begin my journey. Instead would it be more beneficial to go into law. I kinda favor becoming a police officer also just because I love helping people out and I love being in a place of authority. I also think that getting into civil law would not be a bad idea either as I like to debate and I like to negotiate and speak publicly.

1. You could do like Michael Moore and run for school board. *g*
I think it is brilliant that you want to run for office.

Here is a list of election reforms, some of which you might be able to do something about on a municipal level. *g*

3. To do list: --
Not necessarily in this order:
1- finish college
2- get a job on the local newspaper(reporting , not advertizing)
3- run for city council/school board/dog catcher
4- get married, have kids

Then, you just might be qualified to run a town. But don't ever stop believing you can!

4. Honestly, having your first real job in elected office doesn't look good
People tend to frown upon "career" politicians seeing them as corrupt insiders who are generally out to take their money. Also, if you start out in politics and stay in it, you won't make much money. But hey, that's just one guy's opinion.
