Gov. Bush touts Christian-based program for schools

Just before Father's Day, Gov. Jeb Bush announced that he wanted every public school in Florida to host a Christian-based program designed to increase fathers' participation in their children's lives.

The program, All Pro Dad, combines a biblical foundation with the draw of popular professional athletes to promote the belief that "the father is the head of the household" and that men should rely on God to help them be better parents and keep their marriages intact. It also encourages Bible reading.

1. Hah! Toyota thinks we don't know how to read; and anyone THINKING what
the bible says would get utterly confused over the amount of double-talk, non-squiturs, and contradictory statements it makes!!

If they really ARE Christian, have them limit their reading to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and no others.

A Parent Asks: Why Was Jeb Not at Hearing?
by Mike Thomas

So why wasn't Jeb Bush standing with his daughter when the bailiffs slapped the cuffs on her and led her off to prison?

Noelle Bush (R), 25, daughter of Florida Governor Jeb Bush, is handcuffed by a deputy during her hearing in Orange County Court, in Orlando, Florida, October 17, 2002. Bush was sentenced to ten days in the Orange County Jail on a contempt charge by Circuit Judge Reginald Whitehead. REUTERS/Pool-Red Huber

Couldn't he have set aside his campaign for at least a morning? The image of Noelle sitting in a cell in a blue prison jumpsuit while her father, the governor, is at a fund-raiser with her uncle, the president, certainly is one of the more bizarre juxtapositions in Florida political history.

Jeb says he didn't want to turn the court hearing into a media circus. He didn't want to make it look like the governor was trying to intimidate the judge into a more lenient sentence.

7. Ouch it hurts me to do this!
In that situation I think any governor would be damned if he/she did and damned if he/she didn't. Making a court appearance could be perceived as pressuring the judge and absence gives the perception of an uncaring parent.

Now that being said, I think it incredibly unwise to be attending a fundraiser at the same time. A nice quiet day at home or in the office would be more appropriate.

9. The point is
is that Jeb's trying to tell us how to be super dads when he can't even tend his own flock.

15. Yes I understand that.
And I said I did not agree with his decision. But there is an element of the situation with which I can sympathize. Hell, the fact that his child is in a courtroom at all could be used to point out his hypocrisy, not his absence.

5. "head of the household" is the innocuous phrasing.
What they really mean is "master of the household".

16. Which is precisely what their
sado-masochist authoritarian character type requires. <Kudos to Fromm for that one.> :)
