2. I heard some wingnut on the radio the other day

saying he HOPES martial law will be put into effect soon so that all the liberals can be arrested for treason. This dumb fuck doesn't even have any idea what he's wishing for. Do people like him really think that they will be able to go on with their everyday lives once martial law is declared? No. We will all be trapped in our houses, not even allowed to go to the store. Or we will ALL be rounded up, liberals and conservatives alike, and sent to camps. These idiots don't realize that.

They kept the internet root servers, despite a previous agreement to relinquish control to an international governing body. So they would also immediately limit or disable internet access, too.

I think Theboss probably puts it best in his post below. If you're worried about all this leading up to martial law, you shouldn't be. The United States government is incapable of declaring martial law throughout the country -- hell, they'd be lucky to lock down D.C. alone, especially with very little National Guard.

Like Theboss said (quoting Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, I imagine), "There's no money in it." In other words, it's a huge undertaking with very little or no payoff.

I've never been clear how you declare martial law in America. The Army is mostly overseas. The police can't even control bad neighborhoods. And we are all armed to the teeth.

How do you control, say, Topeka...let alone Los Angelos.

I think Franks' politics are well-known by now. He is solidly with the Bushies. Do you really think he would say something like this, and not have to retract it immediately, if it were NOT cleared by The White House? GMAB!

I think it is very possible since Bush's poll numbers were beginning to tank right before this attack. Martial Law suspends all elections until the Commander in Chief decides it is "safe" to hold them again.
