How soon before Martial Law is declaired?
Keep the sheeple scared, ya know.

Can't criticize our leaders in time of war, you know.

Crap.

7. Watch out, smartie .............
you risk getting flamed BIGTIME for pointing out spelling or grammatical errors around here (I don't understand why no one bothers to try to communicate effectively anymore, myself).

2. I heard some wingnut on the radio the other day
saying he HOPES martial law will be put into effect soon so that all the liberals can be arrested for treason. This dumb fuck doesn't even have any idea what he's wishing for. Do people like him really think that they will be able to go on with their everyday lives once martial law is declared? No. We will all be trapped in our houses, not even allowed to go to the store. Or we will ALL be rounded up, liberals and conservatives alike, and sent to camps. These idiots don't realize that.

4. One swipe of your "national ID" card
and you're free to go - party affiliation, you know.

Kinda like the old Communism that the Repukes claim they were fighting against all these years . . .

18. Wouldn't that be easy to get around, though?
I mean, I could register as a Republican just to keep myself safe, then vote Democrat during every election. The only downside would be that I couldn't vote in the Democratic Primaries, but I would consider that a small price to pay to avoid going to jail.

21. Nope - too late
First they give out the National ID card - wait a month - then they start swiping your card and finding out "hey, he's a registered Dem".

Anybody asking to make changes to their ID cards would be immediately under suspicion too . . .

5. It interesting that they chose to retain control of the internet, too!
They kept the internet root servers, despite a previous agreement to relinquish control to an international governing body. So they would also immediately limit or disable internet access, too.

19. Exactly.
I can think of no other reason why they would keep control of the internet except that right there. They know the internet is just about the only method of mass communication that we have, and they want to be able to cut that off if they deem it necessary.

3. How about never?
Let's not jump too far over the ledge, eh? A terrorist attack in England is not going to cause martial law in America. If it didn't happen after 9/11 it won't happen now.

As for martial law in Britain, I seriously doubt that too. They've managedf through far worse than this without declaring martial law (see Battle of Britain)

12. That's not my point. I don't mean because of THIS one incident.
But I believe things are moving in that direction.

Remember, it's all spelled out in PNAC - and so far they have followed it to the letter.

#1 Keep the sheeple scared.

That is what they have successfully done.

You have to learn to read between the lines.

13. Hey, my inter-line perusal skills are freaking legendary...
I think Theboss probably puts it best in his post below. If you're worried about all this leading up to martial law, you shouldn't be. The United States government is incapable of declaring martial law throughout the country -- hell, they'd be lucky to lock down D.C. alone, especially with very little National Guard.

Like Theboss said (quoting Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, I imagine), "There's no money in it." In other words, it's a huge undertaking with very little or no payoff.

16. all through the 90s
Freepers swore that Martial Law was imminent. They believed that Clinton was just looking for an excuse to round them up.

Not that anybody needs one. :eyes:

Nevertheless, there is no need for Du'ers to sink to Freeper level.

I've never been clear how you declare martial law in America. The Army is mostly overseas. The police can't even control bad neighborhoods. And we are all armed to the teeth.

How do you control, say, Topeka...let alone Los Angelos.

They would have a hell of a hard time fighting an American Insurgency when you can go to Wal-Mart or Radio Shack and buy everything you need to destroy a Hummer.

Or when you can control a sniper rifle from miles away through the internet or over a phone line....

Live-Shot

LIVE-SHOT is a new concept. You can challenge yourself and compare your skills to other members with our on-line target shooting. We have developed a system where you can control a pan/tilt/zoom camera and a firearm to shoot at real targets in real time.

While your membership is active, access the viewing cameras to see how others stack up to your abilities, control the pan/tilt/zoom camera to take a look around, and schedule a reservation for your on-line shooting experience.

Currently, shooters will be able to fire 10 (ten) .22 caliber rounds at paper, silhouette and other reactive targets. You may also have a DVD recording, T-Shirt, and/or the paper target from the session shipped as an option. Look for additional, varied shooting systems along with competitions to come online soon.

We are offering a limited number of I Shot OSAMA t-shirts for sale. Purchase one along with your membership and shooting session. Put up to 10 holes into a target printed on the shirt and then wear it with pride. Or send us your own image of something youd like to shoot, and well make a custom t-shirt for you for just $10.00 more. We can offer image sizes up to 8 1/2 x 11 inches.

Oh, and they'll let you shoot real, live animals too...

We have completed a large, wheelchair accessible stand, which houses the LIVE-SHOT shooting system. We can now offer a unique computer assisted hunting opportunity for disabled and handicapped hunters, as well as others, who may need the assistance of our system while hunting on this ranch. This is offered in addition to the traditional hunting methods we offer at various ranches throughout South and Central Texas. For those interested in coming to Texas for a hunt, please send us an e-mail so we can let you know what is available. Transportation is available to and from the ranches and pick up from San Antonio international airport can be provided. Listed are some of the species which will be available on a year round basis.

Tommy Franks: Martial Law Will Replace Constitution After Next Terror Attack

http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2003/11/275357.shtml

Excerpt:

Franks, who successfully led the U.S. military operation to liberate Iraq, expressed his worries in an extensive interview he gave to the men's lifestyle magazine Cigar Aficionado. In the magazine's December edition, the former commander of the military's Central Command warned that if terrorists succeeded in using a weapon of mass destruction (WMD) against the U.S. or one of our allies, it would likely have catastrophic consequences for our cherished republican form of government.

<snip>

Discussing the hypothetical dangers posed to the U.S. in the wake of Sept. 11, Franks said that "the worst thing that could happen" is if terrorists acquire and then use a biological, chemical or nuclear weapon that inflicts heavy casualties. If that happens, Franks said, "... the Western world, the free world, loses what it cherishes most, and that is freedom and liberty we've seen for a couple of hundred years in this grand experiment that we call democracy."

Franks then offered "in a practical sense" what he thinks would happen in the aftermath of such an attack. "It means the potential of a weapon of mass destruction and a terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event somewhere in the Western world - it may be in the United States of America - that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event. Which in fact, then begins to unravel the fabric of our Constitution. Two steps, very, very important."

<snip>

Already, critics of the U.S. Patriot Act, rushed through Congress in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, have argued that the law aims to curtail civil liberties and sets a dangerous precedent. But Franks' scenario goes much further. He is the first high-ranking official to openly speculate that the Constitution could be scrapped in favor of a military form of government.

====

I think Franks' politics are well-known by now. He is solidly with the Bushies. Do you really think he would say something like this, and not have to retract it immediately, if it were NOT cleared by The White House? GMAB!

I think it is very possible since Bush's poll numbers were beginning to tank right before this attack. Martial Law suspends all elections until the Commander in Chief decides it is "safe" to hold them again.

Think about it. It could happen!

20. Dunno...
I didn't say it, Tommy Franks did. Maybe he knows something we don't. The mind of a neo-con is like a gordion knot to me. I cannot fathom what thought processses possess them.

Maybe they'll swear in a few thousand chapters of the local NRA. They owe the Bushies bigtime. :sarcasm:

I watched as it was debated weather or not we would still have elections after martial law were declared. I don't know what was decided.
