GOP Abandons Injured/Disabled Vets

By Rep Louise Slaughter
Posted on Mon Jun 27th, 2005 at 10:03:53 PM EST

I realize it is late but I wanted to get this out to the blogs and grassroots as soon as possible. As some of you may know I serve as the Ranking Democrat on the House Rules Committee... well tonight Republicans on the committee (Chairman Dreier & Reps. Hastings of Washington, Capito, Cole, Bishop and Gingrey) voted against taking care of a serious budget shortfall that the Bush Administration recently announced has opened up in our country's veterans' health care system.

Keep reading in the extended entry...

Rep. Louise Slaughter :: There's more... :: (469 words in story)

Here is rest of the story... http://www.dembloggers.com/

I am so sick of GOP lies! We need to get this out to your GOP friends!

I had huge fight with my ex-boyfriend the other day over this whole mess and I told him, he should be shame of himself for supporting this administration who doesn't give a crap about Vets and Disable coming back from Iraq. All he could say to me, I am a left wing nut and I am communist. I am so sick and tired of right wing nut crap.

5. You are SO right!
Again, I think the flag crap was to keep our minds and concerns off of things like this (and Downing Street Memo, of course).

8. It's outrageous!
First they lie to convince everyone to support a war

Out of foolish arrogance they don't even prepare for it, putting our troops in harms way

Don't equip them properly when they are there

Cut the budget on Veteran healthcare (what a slap in the face)

Still continue to lie to the public (and the troops) about why we are there

It's disgusting! This should be all over the news. The issues keep piling up against these creeps. How dare they tell us that we are harming our troops by speaking out against this war?

11. Was this sent to the Army times?
This is so terrible. They ought to be ashamed of themselves - they're the party that supports the military supposedly? The height of hypocrisy, selfishness, and just plain evil.

Has this been published anywhere else? Probably not. Newspapers refuse to print the news, and yet their readership is way down. I keep getting the Denver Post delivered for free at my house, and I just throw it away. I don't care about Peterson, Micheal Jackson, or the flag burning amendment - I do care about important issues like this, the Downing Street memo, etc., but of course, its negative against repugs and the war - so sorry to bother the delicate sensibilities of the majority of Americans, and their corporate war lords, who want(ed) this war. I get all my news from the Internet now, and will never go back.

The whole situation reminds me of something that happened locally. A row of houses wanted to bury their power lines underground because it is blocking their view of the mountains. So, they put it on the ballot, for everyone in the city to vote on it (and fund it for several million dollars). But, the only ones paying the bill would have been our housing development, not the city, and it would have cost each house $30 a month for over 20 years. The people of the city passed it, because to most people, as long as it sounds like a good idea and someone else is paying the bill, why not? It eventually was thrown out, but that's how this whole war thing sounds. Spread democracy? Destroy terrorists? Stop weapons of mass destruction? It's worth a try. I'm in.

But it won't be me or my kids paying the bill. And if these people come back from the war maimed and hurt and needing help, well, they chose to go.

12. The GOP has no more use for dead/disabled troops than
they have for a fetus once it's born. Both are used for political opportunities and then discarded.
