2. He'd better be careful, or one of those spunky Brits will come here
and chew him out the way Galloway did.

7. No, actually, it's probably a thank you note
Apparently, he's putting it out there that the authenticity should be questioned.

JHFCA!!!!! It took WEEKS for the media to even pay attention. Now that it has legs and is running, Rush invokes the same playbook as they did with Rather. Why didn't he float this at the first mention of the documents???

Someone needs to send Rush some Reynolds wrap.

9. I don't think so...
These are not American documents - these are British documents. The British are not going to shut this story down because of Rush Limbaugh. This story originates in England - not in the White House.

11. The Brits don't control the US media.
Rush putting that out there creates buzz for this side of the pond.

16. I agree with you but
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:45 AM by indie_voter
the reason the Rather debacle gained traction was Rather himself had to apologize, thus leaving the moderates with the impression that CBS screwed up. Same with the Newsweek article.

This isn't the same thing. Smith isn't going to back down (because the minutes were not forged, the originals exist AND Straw (and others) have admitted the minutes are true).

Sure, Rush and others muddy the water and convince their followers this is all a grand conspiracy. However they can't play this game for long because the minutes are NOT forged.

The MSM can try to play this game, but again, Smith comes out swinging and they are yet again exposed as shills.

MHO, the situation is very very different and this will only blow up on the rabid RW.

21. I hope you're correct.
Maybe, just maybe, this time the tried and true tactics of the RW noise machine will actually be their downfall. That would be a dream come true!

13. My thoughts exactly
This is NOT an american story, it is a British one. Straw and others have admitted the minutes are authentic.

These are NOT 30 year old memos authored by a dead man.

These are official meeting minutes from a meeting 3 years ago.

The source has his/her originals.

All this nonsense does is draw attention to the story. Somebody now interviews Smith, he exposes this nonsense and we're back to where we were except now the RW has admitted the memos show Bush lied.

ROFL!

8. I agree...
I can't stomach Rush and the boys... They sit around and scream hate all day then are befuddled when the nation remains so divided. The way they are discounting the Downing street minutes just prove that they love their party more than their country - God forbid that they have been proven wrong.

19. I know their talking points... via secondhand reporting.

My father, and my Boyfriend's father listen to Rush/Lars Larson (local Right wing host)/O'Reilly daily and regurgitate the Dittohead message. I know it's not the best way to learn the opposition's talking points ( I know I should get it straight from the horse's ass... er... mouth), but that's how I do it. I am in awe of any liberal who can stand to listen to Rush for more than 5 minutes. The last time I heard his show, he was lamb basting Jimmy Carter for speaking out on the voting conditions in Florida prior to the election... it was enough to make my blood boil.

6. Just the fact that he's brought the subject up...
is already a BIG WIN for our team. He has to try and address it now, after 6 weeks of ignoring it. Now he and the other Repubs are going to have to not just explain the DSM, they have to explain all the other documents that are coming out, and going to continue coming out.

They're 'questioning their authenticity' and attacking the messenger.

14. Of course, the top DEMs are silent- allowing the media to define the issue
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:41 AM by Dr Fate
I guess the "strategists" who lost the last 3 election cycles know best.

We have given them over a month to formulate a counter hoax- but I'm sure the DEMs are really "giving them enough rope to hang themsleves" or some crap.

18. Drives me crazy
They should have been all over Bush's Saturday address (resurrecting the 9/11 & Saddam connection) and Condi's 'generational commitment', but the DLC is silent.

I am sick of this.

22. The folks who wrote the AWOL memo never denied it either...
...and Democrats never challenged it or stood up for Dan Rather.

We will EVER learn???

The DEM leadership gave Bush a whole month to formulate a counterhoax- well, here it is.
