Let the record show that we tried to stop this
I'm having one of my election day breakdowns tonight. It just hit me, AGAIN, how much hope I had that we'd be able to save the country last year. I'd like my hope back. I'd like my country back. And I wouldn't mind not having these crying fits every couple of months since the election.

When are the people around us going to wake up. When are they going to realize that this is no fucking game. Half the Republicans I know get that smirk on their face because they think they won something Nov. 3rd, like some kind of bizarre "yea team" mentality.

I'm sick of being made fun of by some guy at work who doesn't even take the time to find out what I'm talking about before he's looking for ways to twist it around and ridicule it. I'm sick of the bartender who thinks that Cheney is this great guy because he's a son of a bitch who will tell someone to fuck off.

I'm sick of having an assclown for a Representative.

I'm sick of hearing about war and torture that we should have been able to stop if people would have opened their fucking eyes and voted for the sane man Nov. 2nd. I'm sick of listen to people defend torture and of people who think it will be just fine to hold people forever because that's how long the war on terror will last. I used to joke about little wizened old men in jail cells waiting for the war on terror to be over. I didn't expect people in this administration to prove me right.

When do we get back to sanity. This election? 2008? When will people finally wake the fuck up?! And then I think about those people who still, STILL think we could have won in Vietnam. 20 years from now I'll get to hear about how we could have won in Iraq if the LIBERALS hadn't gotten in the way.

There is some petty part of me who wants the rest of the country to catch up to where I am at. I want them to realize I was right all along. I want them to be fucking ashamed of themselves when they finally wake up to what's been going on this last 5 years. And I hope that Bush is remembered as the zit on the butt of American history that he is.

How can anyone think that this is some kind of fucking political game? They laugh at me as if to say "ha ha, we won". Yeah, you won you bastards. Wait til you see what's behind that fucking curtain though. Let's see what you think of your "prize."

God, I hope there was fraud. If Karen Hughes was right, and Bush was losing by an electoral landslide, then my country isn't as insane or stupid as they are if they honestly and truly elected this imbecile.

1. "Wait til you see what's behind that fucking curtain though"
Classic!

Unfortunately, even after we get rid of Bushie, the stupid people remain. We're in this for the long haul.

2. yeah, it is pretty f*****g depressing when there is a new outrage daily...
and i mean every fucking day, on one front or another, there is something to send me fucking apoplectic.
if it's not some asshole congressman trying to make Gitmo seem like a fucking Denny's then it's news of some lawyer rewriting science to allow Bush and his gang to continue to wreck the world.
every fucking day.
right here in river city we got the nat'l right to life convention and they kindly brought the Shindlers along to tell us how the Terri Schiavo autopsy means precisely the opposite of what science and medicine tell us it means.....

somewhere along the line we passed the gates of hell...

3. I appreciate the rant. We sometimes lose perspective
and can't see how far we've fallen. This definitely isn't a game. We heard again today, in stronger terms, that we napalmed a city in Iraq.

Let me say that again: WE NAPALMED A CITY, WITH PEOPLE IN IT, IN IRAQ.

NAPALM. MADE IN THE USA, SHIPPED TO IRAQ BY THE USA, TAKEN TO A DECIMATED CITY BY US SOLDIERS. ORDERED BY US OFFICIALS TO BE USED, DELIBERATELY SPLASHED INTO HOMES, ONTO PEOPLE, AND IGNITED BY US SOLDIERS. DOWNPLAYED BY MEDIA.

4. I'm sick of people making torture into a joke.
I'm sick of people making 'sound-bites' about how GITMO is a "Spa" for Arabs.

I'm sick of being told that if I don't endorse panties-on-your-head-fraternity-joke torture, that I hate America, hate our military, hate our troops and want America to Loose. (whatever that means)

I'm sick of having an assclown for a Representative that the Republicans count as one of their best and brightest.

I'm sick of rigged elections.

I'm sick of a media that endorses all of the things I'm sick about.

Yes, these ARE sick times. Try to take your vitamins everyday. Really. Those of us who are sick of this shit, ARE vulnerable to actually becoming sick. We need all the help we can get.

Watching the Conyers hearing today was very, very rough.

Things are worse than we think. But Conyers is leading the way out of the darkness. Stay strong.

5. Honey, pls hang in there
Where the heck do you live? Maybe you should move; it sounds distinctly hellish.

I'm in Dallas, TX, one of the most conservative parts of TX; and I don't encounter what you describe--in fact, that was one reason I distrusted the reported election results immediately; 'cause I'm 50 yrs. old and I'd never before known so many conservatives to vote Dem, never seen so many independent or apathetic voters get mobilized to vote Dem.

I'm serious, do something for yourself; everyone deserves it, and you sound like you need it.

I do NOT believe that the majority of Americans are vicious half-wits. I do believe we've been insufficiently attentive--and hey, lots of us had somehow been brought around to accept that we've got no choice but to have both parents work 50-70 hours a week, so it's hard to keep up with anything at all other than keeping our jobs and trying to still take care of our families.

Our inattention is partly to blame for our current crises; but sometimes crises present opportunity. Maybe we're about to learn that if we don't prioritize for ourselves, others will prioritize for us.

And that there are a lot of good folks in the world, including your friends here at DU, certainly enough to outnumber the right-wing extremists, and that if we can just pay attention, organize, and ACT, we WILL prevail.

I've learned of some wonderful quotes from other DU'ers since I began coming here after the 2004 elections. You've probably seen them, but here are a few again. They're not total sunshine; but they help me keep the faith:

"All that is necessary for evil to prevail in this world, is that enough good men do nothing." -- Edmund Burke

Isaac Asimov’s . . . Foundation books, the Encyclopedia Galactica was created not to prevent the coming dark age--nothing could prevent that--but to shorten its length. Every thing that we do, every blog we write, every e-mail we send, every phone call we make, every candidate we work for, every heart and mind we change will shorten the dark time that I believe we have already entered.” -- “Diogenes17” at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3777390

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win. -- Ghandi

Sometimes it takes thousands of good women and men; sometimes it just takes one in the right time and place. You never know when you might be the one.

Love.

6. Thanks people
I just had to puke that all out.

Believe it or not, my church is one of the bright spots. I have no idea why there are a bunch of Democrats going to church in the middle of Freeperville, except that we've been labelled the "liberal" Lutherans. But at least I have one other community than this one to turn to. They are good people, young and old. I actually had a 70 something woman look me in the eye and tell me she felt like she was fighting for democracy. And all they were doing was putting a K/E sign in their yard that kept getting stolen.

Good advice to take care of myself. I have to remember to do that. Sleep has been esp. hard since the election. I thought once I got Kerry elected, then I could sleep. Silly me.

I need to take a moment or two to take a nature break or something. We all need to do that.

7. I'm starting to think I am thisclose to asking a B* supporter
"Are you one the roughly 33% of the population that could watch Bush kill a puuppy on live tv and then turn to the person next to you and say:the puppy deserved it?

8. Giving new meaning to "one sick puppy"
Ayep. That secularist, unAmerican, terrorist-loving puppy surely did deserve it. He's lick the face of anyone, even Osama bin Forgotten, if he thought he could get a doggie treat. Some people will trade oil for food. What we have here is a "Love for Food" scandal.

9. Romanitis self-destructococcus
LittleClarkie I completely relate with you. This nazi twilightzone we're in just makes me sick.

To be perfectly honest with you, the way I feel is that we (our country) don't deserve to stand as a country. I know that sounds bad, but if you really stop and think about it, we have become nothing but a corporate fascist whore spreading more tyranny, death and destruction around the world than anything else. And in so doing, we have come down with what I am going to term Romanitis Self-destructococcus.

Now with that being said don't get me wrong. I will fight tooth & nail to save our beloved country from this disease. But in my honest opinion we don't deserve to remain the country that we currently are; for we have failed. We citizens have failed in our stewardship in maintaining control of our state institutions and our laws. We have handed it over to that age old tyrant - the money powers. And what we are witnessing happen right before our eyes is no less than the modern day version of the same old despotic story of empire and domination by the money powers.

So as far as I am concerned (even though I would fight against it because this still is my country) the world has the right to come over and lay the smack-down on our government and force a regime change here.

God help us...

11. Speaking to the local Dem Party folks
There are people who realize this, and who are getting active now, rather than waiting until the next election.
