Cooney Resigns After NY Times Expose
Cooney Resigns After NY Times Expose and Call from Kerry and Waxman to Investigate Changed Reports
11 June 2005

The White House has spun the spin on this story of course, but Phillip Cooney has resigned his post as senior official at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. His resignation tendered on Friday, came two days after the NY Times expose, and one day after the call from Kerry and Waxman for a GAO investigation into reports that Cooney (and others) “changed some government reports to downplay links between greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.”

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino confirmed Cooney had resigned from the council but said it was unrelated to the Times story.

Yeah right… we expect this sort of explanation from propaganda central:

“Mr. Cooney has long been considering his options following four years of service in the administration,” she said. “He had accumulated four weeks of leave and decided to resign and take the summer off to spend time with his family.”

1. It was resign and take the rap
Or do heavy and lifelong research on the composition of the undersea environment three miles off the coast of Virginia. Up close and personal, if you get my drift.

8. Get your drift? I didn't know drifting was an option.
It's hard to soar with concrete wingtips.

4. More time with the family.....
That happens alot to people in the bush* misadministration.
I wonder if all the LIES and CORRUPTION have anything to do with the high mortality rate?

What happens if his family tells him they liked it better when he spent most of his time at the office?

This is going to make it harder for him to sneak out and see his girl friend.

12. Well done, NYT
You used the mighty power of the Newspaper of Record to get the senior official at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. I guess a lower-level minor league functionary is a start. How about going after some REAL corruption?

And naturally, Mr. Cooney is leaving to "spend more time with his family." Typical flakulence.

15. ok NY TIMES
how about an expose on how bush manipulated, misled and out right lied about WMD's? and how about one on the REAL REASON why bush* invaded Iraq?

16. Kudos to Kerry and Waxman for investigating this!
I see a pattern emerging with this Bush administration. First, it was the lies about the WMD in Iraq, then Bolton changes intelligence because he isn't happy about the conclusions, now this. Unbelievable, if they don't like the facts they feel entitled to change them.
