Dems should invoke Rule 11
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 05:14 PM by longship
In protest of the outrageous abuse of power by the Repugs this morning in the Judiciary Committee the Democratic House leadership should invoke Rule 11 at every possible opportunity. They ought to tie up the House in so many hearings that the Repugs will have to let the minority to be heard.

2. The Dems should do everything in their power to bring the
Congress to a grinding halt. The last five years have been like a bad novel, enough is enough.

10. Rule 11
allows the minority party to call a special committee hearing to call and question their own witnesses under oath. It's the rule which was invoked by the Dems to bring about this morning's hearing in the Judiciary committee.

7. Ask for a Quorum call for every damn stupid thing,
it's legal, it takes forever, and nothing will happen in
either the house or senate.

9. Sort of a "work by the rules" kind of thing
I like it. My only fear is that they would not be able to sustain the protest for long. The fear of the Right Wing Media is all emcompassing, I think, and the idea that Rush Limbaugh might criticize them terrifies this lukewarm bunch on the Hill.

12. Nuclear Option?
Since this is a rule, can it be subject to the same nuclear option as the filibuster?

13. There is no filibuster in the House
However I don't know if rules changes require only a simple majority in that house.

15. Rules Committee
Rules in the House are controlled by the rules committee. Any change would have to be initiated by this committee which is controlled by the fascists.

14. Obstructionist
If we take this tact, you can bet the corporate whores in the media will paint the dems in congress as obstructionists. The only way to end this BS is to win elections and regain the majority. Until then, we will be subjected to the whims of the dictatorial leaders in the house and senate. Hell, Frist can't take a crap without authorization from Rove and the members of the House must get approval from Delay. If we win some elections we can put these bastards behind bars.
