Laura Bush attends fake school? (wow! a new reality in Egypt)

http://www.alternet.org/peek/2005/06/003947.html

"Upon Laura Bush’s recent trip to Egypt, it was planned that she, along with her host Mrs. Mubarak, would visit a USAID funded school in Alexandria. One week before the scheduled visit, the tattered school was painted anew, tidied up, and the sewage system was fixed. The dirty roads around the school were cleaned up and trees were miraculously planted all around the area. A sign in English was written to welcome the 2 first ladies," writes Egyptian blogger The Big Pharaoh.
"The girls were poor and wore dirty school uniforms. Instead of cleaning them out and distributing clean clothes that would have definitely drew a huge smile on their faces, the officials decided to replaced the kids with new kids brought from a language school!...I just don’t understand how a school that is funded by USAID can be so tattered and in such a bad shape. Does it really receive the funds or do they go into some pockets? And how come the US embassy here doesn’t check upon how Americans’ tax money is being spent? I have no clue!"

wasn't a cousin of this reality run in Tx recently?

wonder who runs this USAID school for us taxpayers?

Anyone remember the "list all things fake in the * administration" post from a month or so ago? One of DU's all time best!

Originator, can you start another round, referencing with a link the first?

p.s 1st nomination!

6. Sounds like the old story of Catherine the Great
Her ministers had phony stage sets put in before she was allowed to visit.

8. Is that what they were called!
It seems that the high and mighty can't stand to look at the results of their policies.

I heard that Catherine the Great had a thing for bulls. Is that true?

13. Nasty little rumor has it that it she was crushed to death while...
engaging in a little bestiality with a stallion.

What's definately true is that she had a thing for hot young calvarymen. She wore them out so fast that she had a system set up complete with physical inspections, female testers and trainers to instruct new prospects in her sexual likes and dislikes, so that she wouldn't have to waste her time breaking in a new lover after she pensioned off the old one.

By the way, she was really quite generous. One of her lovers got Poland as a consolation prize.

15. She was a strong ruler--& all people remember are nasty lies.
Re-marriage was out of the question and she probably never took a husband again; although it has been rumored that she and a later lover, Potemkin, were secretly married in the Church of St. Samson in Petersburg. Much has been made of Catherine's libido. She has entered history with a mixed reputation due to the young men who entered her life in it's later years. Had she been a man, no one would have spoken of it, and many of the most famous tales about her are untrue. She dealt with the issue of her affairs head-on and justified it to herself as the need of an autocrat for companionship and diversion......

Catherine's achievements were many. She left Russia much stronger, more prosperous and beautiful than she had found it. That she failed in much she had set out to do had less to do with her and more to do with human nature. Catherine was unable to transform Russia through her will alone. Since she was unwilling to use terror or force to transform society, she chose a more patient path, hoping to gradually raise the level of culture by legislation, education, and example. She single-handedly grafted onto Russian rootstock the bud-wood of western culture, which was taken and remolded two generations later into something marvellous.

The old, tired double standard.

18. Contrast Catherine to the Republican Ideal Woman.
(To bring the thread back on track.)

Laura gave up working the minute she married. She has not done any of the volunteer or charity work favored by other women of her class--even here in Texas. But she sure is sexless!

9. Will they ever allow themselves to see reality?
Well, I guess not because they have so much money they are above the fray. Stupid photo ops for the sheeple.
