6. Sorta like the reunion in Iowa?
I still have such strong feeling against the tearful reunion stunt in Iowa, for Kerry. I mean.. my God, Kerry is a public figure. This man could have looked him up years ago to thank him personally. I'm glad Kerry saved him.. nice to get an endorsement, but I cringe at grandstanding, like this hockey thing. Voters should be too smart to see that it's a publicity stunt. Of course, I suppose a lot of people got excited over Bush in the flight suit. But.. at least Kerry can actually PLAY hockey!!

Speaking of saving lives.. can we have all the patients whose lives were saved by Howard Dean endorse him? Just a thought.

Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 08:39 PM by amen1234

and your diss of Kerry's war service is really pathetic...

I was at the DC Kerry Headquarters when that soldier called in...and it was competely unexpected...Kerry saved the soldiers life, and so, the rescued man had watched Kerry over the years on TV....when he realized that the time had come for him to STAND UP for the guy who saved his life...he called Kerry Headquarters...it was a nice gesture, and there's no need to crap all over the joy of two old soldiers....

12. This could bring quite a lot of hockey players to the Kerry camp
in New England.

Old New Hampshire sports article from The Hoya

http://www.thehoya.com/sports/111400/sports9.htm

Hockey is a lifestyle for many, a hobby for some, but it is definitely a way of life in New England. I’m not a Northern native, so I don’t completely understand the mentality, but I’ve seen how it works, and I love it. (Also, I always sucked at the skating aspect of hockey. Never had any problem with the whole “hockey” thing, but man am I bad on skates.)

Every kid in New Hampshire (and much of the rest of northern New England) plays hockey, or so it seems. You learn to skate, and then you play hockey, because that’s the way it is. There’s no worrying about ice time, because there’s frozen ice all over the place (remember the cold aspect of New Hampshire), and learning is easy because everybody knows how to skate.

All of the high schools have rinks, and those that don’t use town facilities. Every high school has a hockey team, even those that don’t have football teams. So everyone plays. And those who don’t at least appreciate the sport.

This translates into fan support, at all levels of the game. I spent my high school years going to Portland Pirates games when I lived in Maine. The American Hockey League farm team of the Washington Capitals, the Pirates have probably had days when their crowds were larger than those for the Caps. And the games were great — packed arena, reasonably priced and oh-so-healthy hot dogs and nachos, seats right on top of the action and quality play.

17. and Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin too.....
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 09:02 PM by amen1234

it's so easy to build a rink in Michigan during the winter...my Dad used to just bring out the garden hose and flood the whole back yard...after the ice has been built up, you just add a little more water once-in-a-while to clean up the scratches...kids love it and are thrilled to play outdoors....we had a huge box of ice skates to use, when friends came over and kids outgrew old ones...we loved to ice-skate...and play hockey at the nearby park...

18. And even more firefighters as I'm sure they'll learn
that he skates in the celebrity game for the Leary Firefighter fund.

I think it's also great that everyone who attended brought a canned good for charity.

A positive all around:)

13. Wasn't Ray Borque a head-hunter
and a third rate player, or am I deeply confused? If that characterization is correct, shouldn't he be hanging with Lieberman instead of Kerry?

14. Guys,
I'm not a kerryite. They're going to try and portray Kerry as a guy who ice-skates (which doesn't play well in the south), someone who would rather skate than deal with politics. Kudos to your guy, just don't let them push it too far.

16. lighten up....it's a sports endorsement with a little flair....
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 08:51 PM by amen1234
not much difference from endorsements by race car drivers, football or baseball teams, sports fishermen, sports hunters or anyone else...

IMO, it was the 'Polical Play of the Day', as confirmed by all the whining and crying on this thread....

Kerry has always been an active sportsman, the sports where he grew up...he's a hunter and enjoys Kite-surfing too....

JFK......Kite-surfing

Go Kerry....beat bush....
