thoughts about impeachment
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 05:00 AM by radfringe
There have been many articles/postings about impeaching bush*/cheney.
The DOWNING STREET MEMO has spurred the latest rounds of calling for bush*/cheney's heads.

This is all well and good, and I've signed many petitions calling for investigations/impeachment etc.

However, there is one huge boulder on Impeachment Highway -- the Rubberican Congress. (Rubberican - rubber-stamp republicans)

Briefly: The House of Representatives have to initiate the articles of impeachment, if it passes then it goes to the Senate. Both the Senate and House are controlled by Rubbericans. In it's current state I'd say that there is a greater chance of the Loch Ness Monster swimming up the Potomac than there is of bush*/cheney being impeached.

The only way to tip the odds in favor of impeachment is to focus on the 2006 mid-term (s)election and bounce the rubbericans out. Now to some this may sound like a long shot given how well the Rubbericans are able to divide and conquer through the use of fear. However, there is a growing discontent with the way things are going.

according to these polls: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls.html

Congress - Job Approval Ratings
Poll Date
RCP Average 5/2 - 5/23
Approve 33.0%
Disapprove 56.0%
Spread -23.0%

President George W. Bush - Job Approval Ratings
Poll Date
RCP Average 5/18 - 5/24
Approve 46.5%
Disapprove 49.0%
Spread -2.5%

People are getting fed-up. Dean managed to tap into it during his primary run in 2004. He validated that people were angry and upset. If the Dems would just stop playing "nice" and start tapping into the growing discontent we could see the Rubbericans bounced out of the house and senate.

One mistake the Dems keep making over and over again is to apologize. A Dem makes some statement, Rubbericans feign being upset, and the Dem backs down with some apology that then trails after him for the remainder of the campaign and the Dem goes into defense mode when he/she should be going on the offensive. So rule one - STOP FREAKING APOLOGIZING, rule two - STOP GOING INTO DEFENSE MODE

yeah, maybe people say they don't like dirty campaigns, but they pay alot more attention to one than a "nice" campaign. This brings us to rule three - STOP PLAYING NICE.

This means STOP PLAYING NICE in the House, in the Senate, at press conference and on the campaign trail. The only way to effectively stop a bully is to hit him harder than he can hit you.

3. The only way bu$h will ever be held accountable is if the voters
clean Congress in 2006.
We can all help that by getting involved in campaigns against all republicans running for re-election next year.
We need to start now!
We should have started months ago.

5. While I agree that we need to seriously focus on the 2006 mid-terms...
I don't believe that is our only option. <Especially since I am incredibly suspicious of electronic voting and Republican shenanigans.>

Politicians may have party loyalty, but their ultimate loyalty lies with their own political ass. If the tide turns enough against Bush I think we will see Republicans turn on him and eat their own. While we work hard on the 2006 elections we definitely shouldn't let up an inch on pressing the issue now. If anything, that keeps it on the table AS an election issue.

I'm working on a letter to send to my representatives now...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1821428 2/3 are Republicans, but who knows what they'll do under increasing pressure. Can't hurt to be heard.

6. It's about time for another Rove trick to keep the gullible in the fold
We are always trying to play catch-up to the Rove maneuvers. You can count on another "trick" before the 2006 elections. He is most likely very busy getting prepared for the mud slinging at least in the close states. Are we prepared?
