Nixon looks like a saint compared to George W. Bush!......This is so
disgusting!....The hypocrisy of the indignation being displayed on CNN by the various talking heads is astounding!.....They are so horrified that president Nixon would lie to the public!....Nobody died as a result of Nixon's lies!...The fact that president Bush has lied and thousands have died is apparently not important!....

1. Maybe this will put some heat on dubya to come clean
I hear Fell being dissed for helping to take down Nixon. Nothing about Nixon lying and cheating. The wingers are ready for anything with their "prove it" responses. It's how the adm is getting by today.........circumstancial evidence is overwhelming, but they won't own up.

2. Nixon did his share of killings in Southeast Asia and in Chile
The difference now is that there is no one daring to publish stories that reveal misconduct by the Bush Administration. We had a vibrant free press when Nixon was President, we don't now.

4. I was gonna say something along those lines.
Nixon isn't responsible for Vietnam, but the whole Watergate affair was prompted in order to discredit Daniel Ellsberg who leaked the Pentagon papers. Nixon had been perpetuating the lie that the war was winnable, and the Pentagon papers directly contradicted that. If the war had ended when the Pentagon papers were written, we would've probably saved 25,000 American and god-only-knows how many Vietnamese lives.

However, Bush's deliberate attempt to manipulate intelligence and cheerlead American support for war against Iraq is a much greater crime than Nixon's squelching a report on a war that was already ongoing.

5. I was only referring to his lies about Watergate, which is what is being
talked about now....Southeast Asia and Chile is another story....Wouldn't it be great if a Woodward or Bernstein would pop up and do the job that needs to be done on Bush!...:)

6. Ironic that Bob Woodward has played a key role in the deification of Bush
it is almost as if he regretted that Nixon was brought down by Watergate.

7. My theory is that the reason Nixon was taken down was to make way for
Republicans who were much more corporate friendly.

Yes, Nixon did IT&T's bidding in Chile and elsewhere, but at home he was for a decent minimum wage and thought the environment should be protected. The Republicans who came to power after Nixon was cleared out were much less precious about protecting the American working class.

3. If the choice was between Bush and Nixon
I'd have had a "Nixon Now" button on come November.

9. I was only 10 when he got impeached
but at least I remember him being president. I remember his trip to China. And watching him on CSPAN a couple of weeks ago, I pined for a president who understood diplomacy.

At least there were adults in the White House then.

And if he had enough class (and Kerry too) to shake John Kerry's hand and make nice before he died, he's a way better man than Bush will ever be.
