Volinvich: "I know the reasons Bolton was nominated to UN Ambassador..."
Been away from here for a while, so pardon if this was noted and posted.

About 10 minutes before the end of Voinovich's speech, he made an interesting statement, which I paraphrase:

"I know the reasons Bolton was nominated to UN Ambassador, but will not say on the Senate floor. You can ask senior members of the Foreign Relations Committee or see me privately, and I will tell you..."

Any idea what information Voinovich has and will not say public ally?

20. Having a moderate amount of courage is better than having zero.
He's making the info available in his own way to people who have the power to stop the Bolton nomination. Yes, it would be better to have him do more, but let's kick the other Rethugs with ZERO courage or principles, who won't help him, listen to what he has to say, etc., and then ACT. That's where the real blame lies.

7. Maybe Bolton's role in the PNAC
Back in April I sent the following letter to Voinovich and all the Dems on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Maybe he was paying attention.....

=========
Dear Senator:

On January 26, 1998, John Bolton signed a letter to President Clinton issued by the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) urging an attack on Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein from power. Other signators to the PNAC letter include Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Elliott Abrams, Richard Perle, Richard Armitage, and Zalmay Khalilzad, who were all elevated into the Bush Administration hierarchy immediately after the 2000 Election.

http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm

Mr. Bolton has already battled allegations of exaggerating intelligence on Cuba's alleged biological weapons program but his role in helping to create the "faulty intelligence" leading to the Iraq war should also be closely scrutinized considering his earlier participation in promoting the PNAC's agenda towards the Middle East.

I encourage you to read "PNAC 101".for a broader overview to their inner workings and a clearer understanding of the danger associated with appointing Mr. Bolton :as Ambassador to the U.N.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

10. Bolton's job description?
1) Get out treaties that limit use of weapons in space

2) War: pick two or three (Iran, Syria, North Korea)

3) Get out of the UN

4) War

5) War

Note: currently the junta considers "limited" nuclear warfare an option.

Bolton has threatened to blow the whistle on *, on Guckert, or who know what dirty trick.

It is very strange for a Senator to say "I have a secret" in public on the Senate floor. That means that he is willing to work with the other side to release the information.

I know at least one investigative reporter who is on this, stand by for developments!

than Bolton down. I hope this "secret" is so big and bad that Condi, Wolfie, Perle et al all have to turn in their resignations.

Well,one can dream, can't one? }(

18. I don't know the reason, but I have a simple question -
I recall hearing that Bolton was part of the "Republican Riot" at the Florida vote count in 2000 and I think I recall seeing pictures here that support that. My question is:

How long has Bolton been in the State Department?
When he was part of the "Republican Riot" during the Florida vote count, was he on vacation or leave of absence? I certainly hope so, or else he may have been in violation of the Hatch Act. I would hate to find out if anyone else paid for his transportaion or lodging or expenses or anything else during the Florida vote count.

24. No. Clinton was still president during the Florida vote counting riot.
Bolton was definitely not in the State Department then. He's a Bush appointee, one that was pushed by Cheney and one that Colin Powell did not like or trust.

33. The article I read said that he was in Korea and was called back
to deal with the Republican recount.

His words when he got there were "I'm from the Bush-cheny campaign and I'm here to shut down this recount."

30. I've read that report as well.
Apparently, Condi was against him being posted at the State Dept., and this UN nomination was considered a 'safe' appointment for him, where he couldn't do much harm because he wouldn't really be setting policy.

These people are all wacked.

31. Bolton / Miami Dade vote counting
I remember reading that Bolton was in the Far East working or something. During the Fla 2000 recounting.....he immediately flew back and wound up at the library in Miami Dade....pounding on the door saying "he was here to stop the recount". Later I remember reading that someone in the bush admin was asked 'what do they owe Bolton for his FLa vote-stopping activity'.....and the response was "anything he wants".

38. Looks like one of the High Points for us in all this
is that Bush is so intent on paying off some of his political debts to his election stealing cronies...that he'll split his own ranks to do it.

If Getting Bolton costs him Condi loyalty etc..it's going to be a wish he gets that he will long regret.
