What's with Trent Lott ?
His Party kicks him out of his leadership position as Majority Leader and installs Bill Frist. Yet, Lott stays loyal to his Party and apparently to Bill Frist. Wouldn't it seem natural just to have a little animosity toward Frist and his other Republican friends? Did n't they really give him the shaft?

1. They probably told him to
shut up and get in line or they have worse in store for him. This crew makes the mafia look like boy scouts.

3. I live in Mississippi, and even I don't know
But regardless, as long as the paycheck keeps coming in, I'm sure Lott wouldn't be complaining too much. I think it's the money that's talking. Money is politics nowadays.

8. If he wants to make money he could retire and go into the private sector
Which I hope he does so that Mike Moore or Gene Taylor can take his place. Sure they're probably both DINOs but anything's better than Lott.

11. Bennie Thompson would be a great candidate
But he recently won re-election in his congressional district in the delta against Clinton B. LeSeur, a man who ran on an overtly Christian platform. Bennie is probably the best Mississippi has as far as looking at their stances on the issues goes.

4. Have you seen them at brunch together?
That was a snarky come-back. But I really have to wonder. I can surely imagine that Lott's doing what ever it is he's doing for his own reasons. I don't think he's 'loyal to Frist'. I *do* think he's loyal to Mississippi (just to prove I can spell it! :) ). I *do* think he's loyal to himself and wants to stay in the Senate. If anything, his loyalty may be a front and he is simply going along to get along.

But honestly, I really don't know.

6. He's loyal to his party because
they're the ones on power. His constituents here in Mississippi are loyal to him because of the pork he gets for them. If he doesn't play ball with the Republicans, he loses the pork. If he loses the pork, Mississippi no longer needs him.

10. He KEPT ALL HIS PERKS
He has the BIG office, he has the CAR and DRIVER, he has the EXTRA staff members, the extra salary money, the extra postage...but none of the work, none of the worry, and none of the shit. He now gets WEEKENDS OFF!!

So long as he plays ball, they will throw him plenty of pork bones. He is living large and taking it easy.

Had he not gotten his way, it would have been a bloodbath. In a perverse way, he won...

12. He's a turd
...but one possibly good thing about him: He's expressed reservations about removing the filibuster and may even vote with the Democrats this week. I won't hold my breath, but it could happen.

13. Maybe he is taking the long view. Look at how long it took Newt
to get DeLay. An elephant never forgets, or apparently, forgives.
