A Constitutional amendment to allow Senate filibusters?
If next week passes with the radical Republican dominated Senate strangling the use of the filibuster whenever a simple majority says so, the Right will have made the most historic and dangerous grab to consolidate power in the hands of the majority this nation has ever seen.

Apparently, now is the time to play a trump card.

So, pledge to support a constitutional amendment for codifying the right to filibuster in the Senate.

This forces one to side either with a "republican" form of government that has a codified respect for the minority or admits that one has no qualms about silencing the minority.

What American politician wants to be known as one who support the latter?

60/40, 67/33… pick the ratio for cloture. It matters more that there is codified recognition that in the Senate the minority has rights and can not be ignored.

As much as I think Americans are in many ways dull-eyed and empty-headed, they do have an almost instinctive appreciation for the underdog, little guy, the minority.

If the GOP can be maneuvered to stand against such an amendment, then they can be cast as anti-American, and as those who do not care at all for the underdog, the little guy, and in fact, individually, all of us.

I happen to think that they don't anyway, but it would be a fine feast to watch them twist and turn like a worm on a hook as they explain why people should support them at the election box for the crushing of minority rights.

However, if they support such an amendment, then their shenanigans this week stabbing at the heart of the Republic can be nullified.

1. Listening to all the pretty speeches about how they'd much rather
be working on 1) jobs for the unemployed 2) bringing down gas prices 3) health care for those who aren't covered - I couldn't help but think of the campaign ads that are just ripe for the creation - because we all know they ain't gonna do a damn thing about any of those issues - especially if they kill the filibuster. It's all going to be putting God back in the classroom, extreme right wing judges (will they start impeaching one's they don't like so they can refill the spots?)
