George Allen (R-reptile) question.
What has this man done so that he suddenly appears from nowhere and is seen everywhere now? I'd never really heard much of him before the last few months. Who's chamberpot did he empty to garner favor?

1. I'd like to know too
and I'll :kick: to keep this from sinking. I do know that Senator John Warner sometimes deviates from the script (like he did in the Shiavo case where he voted no to overrule). Allen is in lockstep with this administration. He had a famous Daddy too. (Redskin's Coach).

2. My take on it is this:
He's from Virginia, the most "Northern-like" of the Southern states.
It's probably some kind of ploy to try and "bridge the gap". Plus, they also have to put up a new face every now and then to deflect attention from the other trouble makers.

7. He's not actually from Virginia, though
Edited on Tue May-17-05 10:57 AM by LibDemAlways
it is his adopted state. He was born in Whittier CA and lived in the Southern California area until he was an adult.

On edit...I recall he went to UCLA out of high school and later transferred to Virginia because his dad had taken the Redskins job and also probably because he was itching to move to the South. He proudly displayed Confederate flag stickers on his car while in high school in Palos Verdes, CA.

9. He did go to UVa (chickenhawk) and played football*
They featured a picture of him on the field in one of his campaign ads when he first ran.

*-he was fourth (at best) string on a UVa team that was a step above a club level intramural team at the time. Students preferred to be up in the stands in their oxford button down and college stripe tie (a UVa tradition) getting drunk. Allen basically showed up as a legacy (his dad was Redskins coach at this point) and since he wasn't costing them a scholarship they never ran him off. He wouldn't go away and eventually they were getting so blown out of a game they figured "what the hell let that Allen idiot get in a game".

5. Big time asshat
He is a former state legislator, former Governor, current Senator and former head of the Republican Senate Campaign Committee in the last cycle. He is starting his run for President so he is starting to raise his profile.

He is about as bright as the current resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave

6. The repukes are priming the little turd
for higher office. Think about it. He's the ideal repuke candidate. Not too bright, therefore easily manipulated. Father was an NFL coach. Fake Southerner, though can truthfully claim he's a native Californian if politically expedient to do so.

He's a natural successor to the chimp.

He just has to hope and pray no one ever publically asks him to explain the Confederate flag he has been known to display on the living room wall, the noose he had on display in his law office, or that long-ago incident in which he vandalized his high school with racist graffiti targeting blacks. Yep, he's a winner all right.

8. Right-Allen was the "golden boy", Santorum passed for a period of time
but now Santorum doesn't look to be much of a sure thing to get re-elected so Allen starts popping up everywhere. They are basically painting him as the son of Ronald Reagan as well as his football coach, I noticed him placed directly in the camera angle the other day at a function Nancy Reagan was at in the White House.

Allen is a suit and a perfect replacement for W. Nice haircut and able to read the teleprompter. The funny thing is that in every committee meeting (that most people never see) he repeatedly is corrected by the Senators who follow his speech reading. It's not just Dems either (Kerry during the Rice hearings) but Repubs as well (Hagel-POTUS candidate so figure that in- during the Bolton hearings). It would be funny if he was a US Senator.
