Feingold praised for fiscal discipline
http://feingold.senate.gov/~feingold/releases/05/05/200...

U.S. Senator Russ Feingold was one of only three U.S. Senators in the last Congress whose agenda would save taxpayer dollars rather than increase spending. The National Taxpayers Union (NTU), a congressional spending watchdog organization, released a study saying that the legislation Feingold sponsored or cosponsored during the last Congress would end up saving a net $295 million in taxpayer dollars.

"The spendthrift policies of this administration have left our nation with heavy financial burdens, many of which will be shouldered by our children and our grandchildren," Feingold said. "We have to put in place policies that will begin to ease some of that burden or risk digging a deeper hole for future generations to climb out of."

The BillTally analysis is prepared each year by the NTU. It examines the spending and spending cut proposals in bills sponsored by members of the House and Senate. Among the items the BillTally study listed were 11 bills Feingold supported that decreased spending by over $3 billion. The study is the latest to document the Feingold tradition of fiscal responsibility. Feingold has been named a "Treasury Guardian" several times by the non-partisan budget watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense and has been named to the "Honor Roll" by the Concord Coalition, a non-partisan, grass roots organization dedicated to achieving a balanced budget.
