REAL ID Vote likely tonight or tommorow - ACT NOW!!!

REAL ID Vote likely tonight or tommorow - ACT NOW!!!

Please contact your Senators today, and urge them to oppose the REAL ID Act. Call your Senators by dialing the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and send the e-mail below!

<snip>

The Senate is considering anti-immigrant legislation called the
REAL ID Act that does nothing to make our communities more
secure. Instead, this legislation prevents undocumented
immigrants from getting driver's licenses and imposes new
unfunded federal mandates on states to enforce federal
immigration laws.

We need real immigration reform, not band-aid fixes that do
nothing to improve homeland security or address the problems
with our broken immigration system.

Please contact your Senators today, and urge them to oppose the
REAL ID Act. Call your Senators by dialing the Capitol
Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and send the e-mail below!

I just called Isakson's office and expressed my views on RealID and tying it to this bill. Unfortunately, he's one of my senators. I couldn't get through to Saxby Cahbliss' office (all circuits busy). Y'all call and let them know how we feel about this RealID act.

1. The Isakson amendment: important information:
<snip>

"The provisions of the REAL ID Act are already included in the
House version of the Emergency Supplemental bill which is
primarily intended to provide Tsunami relief and supplies for
our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. But these provisions are not
yet in the Senate bill now being debated. The Isakson amendment
would add them.

If the Isakson amendment passes without change there will be no
differences between the House and Senate versions of these
provisions, and they will almost definitely become law. If, on
the other hand, it fails to pass, or if an amended version
passes, then the differences will be resolved in the next few
weeks by the House-Senate Conference Committee likely to be
composed of members of the House and Senate Appropriations
Committees."

5. Thanks for watching my back anyway!
I just got through to Chambliss' office and let Brittan, the receptionist, know my feelings about RealID. I had to call the switchboard. The direct number circuits were still busy.

I can't believe that one of my Senators has written this ammendment. He's a newly elected member so they probably made him do it since he'll be safe for the next 5 1/2 years.

:grr:

8. They are all opposed to it
The problem is that it is in the supplemental and they dont want to vote against the supplemental. Are you telling us Kerry will vote against the supplemental? (I would be surprised).

9. Sen Durbin on the floor. On C-Span 2. Oops quorum call....
Aside from the fact that this provision was smuggled into the emergency bill...

Durbin brought up the fact that the bill for ex. requires 3 forms of ID's, requiring verification for the documents by the clerk at the DMV. Question is if someone who has a birth cert from Yugoslavia, because he emigrated to the US, (a country which does no longer exist), how can any local DMV clerk verify such document.

10. I caught his speech
My problem is that, if RealId is so bad and has been imposed on them like that, why do they vote for the bill anyway. (I certainly understand the political implication of not voting, just frustrating).

12. But... but... they voted against bankruptcy protection for the troops!
Damn, I hate those Republican bastards in Congress.

And to think George Bush tried to get Osama to drop a plane on them all...

13. Yup
That's why Kennedy is going to vote for it, and if that's the case, I don't see many standing against.

Never accuse the opposition of being stupid, attaching this the way they did.
