CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll

The Numbers Do A Number on Bush
By S.M. Dixon
05/03/05

A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released on "Inside Politics" shows Bush's approval ratings at an all-time low on several issues across the board; the poll was taken from April 29 - May 1 and has a +/- of 3%.

49%/45% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of world affairs.

53%/43% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of the economy.

55%/42% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of Iraq.

58%/35% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of Social Security.

52%/34% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of energy policy.

67%/27% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of gas prices.

In 2006 the American people won't be able to boot George out of office, but they can certainly take out their frustrations on his party -- something we've seen before, in 1994 with the 104th Congress.

Just thought you might be interested :hi:

1. But, does Bush care?
I hate to say it, but Bush doesn't care about this party electorally in 2006. By then he knows he will be a lame duck. Right now all he cares about is making a legacy for himself before he can no longer get Congress to do anything for him.

4. Bush's legacy will be the worst of any president
His imperialism killed innocents and our kids. That is what he will be remembered by.

6. But, Congress likely knows that Bush doesn't care about them
So I imagine the window for getting Congress to do anything for him is closing. Rapidly.

7. I think he cares about the numbers, but only
for how much power they translate into.

3. With numbers like these....
...how in the hell did he get 50.8% of the vote 6 months ago? Well, we all know how. He didn't. He lost the election, and the results were crooked again. He is a two-time loser in presidential elections - and these lousy numbers reflect that.

Don'tcha feel safer than you did in 2000?

Fear and hatred evoke strong emotions.

The modern Republican Party is a master of both.

And that's all that matters.

9. With numbers like these they're probably out recruiting Saudis again.
Only thing that'll help him now is a major scare the shit out of the Amurkins event.

With these kind of numbers since the rigged election it is just sad that most people in this country can't put two and two together and see what happened.

11. major scare the shit out of the Amurkins event.
the lower his numbers go the more likely it looks

but a "terra-lert" won't be enough to sustain "improvement" of his numbers -- too many people have made the connection between crappy poll numbers that trigger terra-lerts

this leaves two probabilities -- terra and war:

1. a LIHOP/MIHOP terra-attack on US soil

2. Invasion of IRAN

18. And what did Reagan say when his ratings went in the dumpster?
"The only way I could get better approval ratings is if someone shot me again"--or words similar to those.

With Bush its not being shot, its about buildings coming down and Americans dieing. I really expect some kind of "attack" whether real or trumped up sometime this year.

10. Don't understand how to read them. It appears that his Disapproval numbe
numbers are getting lower. Is the first number the most current or is the second number most current?

67%/27% disapprove/approve Bush's handling of gas prices.

???

15. The first number --67% in this case--is the "Disapprove"
number, the second is the approve number. He's tanking on every issue.

where Rethugs are expressing concerns. Story focuses on inaction on gas prices.

Pres' ratings "at a new low."

25. How many new lows can there be?
Just wondering if these polls are registering 'all-time lows' in 1/100ths of percents...
Seems like every week there's a new story about *'s 'tanking', 'plummetting', 'collapsing', etc numbers, but he manages to stay somewhere around the mid 40s.
Are there much lower number polls being averaged into these numbers? Are there other indicators these numbers aren't reflecting?
(Obviously the 67/27 gas price split & 58/35 SS numbers are serious and obvious, just saying * seems to keep an awful strong hold on the mid-40s for a guy we're told is clinging for dear life)

23. Exactly. Doesn't matter what the poll #'s are when the votes are stolen.
Until our election system is fixed, Democrats will never win back the house, congress or the white house.

for their own re-election efforts, So in that sense this poll carries extra weight

24. If we had a truly free press...
** would be getting hammered left and right and people would be outraged. But as we slip deeper and deeper into fascism, propaganda is king and the pandering media will prop him up as long as their bottom line doesn't start suffering.

Tactic: When negative news springs up, distract the public with another soft, human-interest story with just enough controversy to keep peoples' attention away from this disaster who was appointed president (enter "run-away bride" stage left).

Meanwhile, bubble-boy, who admits he never looks at polls, reads newspapers or watches the news, is skipping along like he's the most beloved leader the country has ever known.

Thus is the bizarro world we now live.
