The Party has sold out this country for corporate loot
Everything that happened in Ohio is emblematic of the problem. It did not start with the DLC or the Chimpemperor it began under Tip O'Neill in the late 70's and I fear we have lost any chance to resuscitate our democracy.

What? Me Work?
A failed campaign shows Ohio's Democratic Party in all its glorious suckitude. BY CHRIS MAAG

< > <snip> "Some wonder whether White's failure was actually misguided strategy rather than simple bungling. Democratic mayors control most Ohio cities, and the higher contribution limits will likely help them raise money from corporate and wealthy donors for their reelection campaigns. "You've got Democrats in all the major cities in this state . . ." White says. "It might help them personally."

But Democrats don't have much to worry about in the cities. It's the growing suburbs and the countryside that have given Republicans unilateral control of Ohio. "If that's the strategy, it's just plain stupid," says Wagner. "It gives the Republicans a lock on the Statehouse . . . The problem is Denny White. I mean, my God, it's embarrassing that Democrats don't hold a single state office."

1. Agreed...
..but the typical American imbecile doesn't fucking CARE...they're too busy wondering what the gender of Britney Spears's baby is...or when the new Star Wars movie is coming out....or when the next NASCAR race is...or when Jay-Z's new single is coming out...

2. I think you've nailed it. By dazzling the public with bread and circuses
the corporate fat cats have destroyed the American public's ability to reason independently. So we can have what went on in OHIO met with a shrug- oh, it's "business as usual" ...

3. There is a way to fight back though,
Check out the link in my sig. We just started collecting signatures for a petition against bribery in Florida that will stop exactly what you are talking about, if we can get enough people to work the problem.

My friend and I collected 101 signatures last Saturday, and EVERY SINGLE person we explained the problem to signed up, and most gave us very sincere "thanks" for what we are doing. You can see the text of the flyer we used here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1742381

Check it out. We aren't as helpless as you think.

4. We are not Immune.
But right now Halliburton has started a war to save subsidiary KBR from banktuptcy. They are in full control of the war and over the Pentagon. They have forgiven thier own price gouging, over billing, and out right fraud as they edit thier audits. If General Peter Pace thinks he will be running the Pentagon. I've got news for him. If he wanted to do that he should have gotten Cheney to appoint him CEO of Halliburton instead of Bush appointing him Chairman of the JCS. Now he's just a grunt in more ways than one.

5. Excellent point. I find the corporatization of the military very
troubling. War has always been a racket but at least in the past one could argue that the businesses that reaped the big windfalls spent it in the country and so the economy benefited. Now we're seeing our blood and treasure being used to prop up friendly despots and invest in Communist China.

6. "Freedom isn't free"
When their are war profiteers afoot. Greeddom is bought with dollars and cents. Freedom is paid for with the Blood, Sweat, and Tears of the oppressed.

It worse than you thought. Halliburton is not a US Company. They don't pay taxes on what they are given and it can't benefit our economy until the money enters this country. They are also doing business with our potential enemy Iran. US embargo's are not binding upon foreign companies like Halliburton. The Republican are using one of the oldest tricks in their Book. It's called Republican Money Laundering. They take money from the treasury. They throw it overseas where it will change hands several times before it comes back to America and straight into their pockets. Now taking bets on the Republicans raising 200 Billion for the 2008 elections. If we do not stop their robbery of our Treasury. They will have our every last penny, if they don't already, and they will just buy the country. Game Over.
