7. What a nerve
I wrote to the guy and told him how I didn't like him saying my voice didn't matter and I wasn't that stunned he didn't reply. Of course he couldn't. They're on the stage of fighting us now! Keep it the pressure up!!! Everybody here at DU should write to him and have him have John Conyers at least on the commission. David Cobb and gang too.

5. I saw this guy on CSPAN this morning. He sounded EXACTLY
as you describe him.

But now we have him on tape. He shouldn't be the exec director of ANYTHING and particularly not a voting reform commission, so he's obviously perfect for the job.

Every caller that expressed a concern about electronic voting was dismissed without a moment's pause. He was so awful, I called Pelosi and Boxer's offices to tell on his @ss.

At some point, we're going to start resenting all the money we pay for these noninvestigatory commissions and their fake reports.

Great work.

10. Here's the email I sent after I left a voice message for MR. PASTOR
Mr. Pastor,

I cannot say with certainty that absolutely no one has sent you more than one email, but I would assume that they all have return email addresses for you to follow. We are separate individuals who understand that America is no democracy without a legit vote. We are concerned individuals contacting our leaders and pseudo leaders with our very real concerns. It scares me that you do not encourage that but have shown anger over it.

Any hackable machines will be hacked. They were in 00. They were in 04. I know it. You know it. If you do not, you are not an informed individual. Please, give us our democracy back. Please give us a real election reform board. We cannot and will not settle for the recommendations of a committee that has been formed solely to thwart the truth while appearing to be studying the problem. Please lets get this done now. We will accept nothing less than open real elections. We cannot if democracy is to live in America.

But, I will be mounting a thread tomorrow in 2004E&R on this disgustingly obvious ringer.

And we have to lean on Pelosi and Boxer because their seats just became vulnerable to electronic voting, with the hit on Kevin Shelley. They'll be ready to listen, hopefully.

Subj: How to identify the origin of email

Dr. Pastor,

I read at Bradblog that you are under the impression that you are being harassed by six or seven people via email in regards to the Federal Election Reform Committee.

I sincerely hope that this isn't the case. And wanted to share this information with you. Each email you receive has a "header". That is, you can display the routing of each piece of email and that routing information will show you the origin of the mail and the route it took on the way to your mailbox.

In addition, there is the site www.samspade.org. If you are receiving spam, you can use this site to determine the origin and in many cases, the ownership of the spamming site.

It was illuminating to watch you on C-SPAN on April 19. I now know, beyond a reasonable doubt, that your commission will at best be a huge waste of tax dollars and at worst, another vehicle to further the corruption of our Federal elections.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Ferrari

21. I'm not a computer whiz, but if we all use the email form at Brad's site,
won't they show the same info in the header? Shouldn't we send from our personal email accounts?

But who does that asshat think he is with his comment about 51% of Americans - even if it was true (must be some doubt after all, that's the whole reason behind having an election reform committee, well the stated reason at least)

but why do these arrogant motherfuckers keep saying that the other 49% of us don't count? This is still America, and a representative gov't is supposed to represent all of us, not just one party (who aren't really represented, only the corporate donors, but don't tell the sheeple that - they might walk into a fence post)

Seriously, they always go back to "well, there's Dems on the committee" to try to placate, and get totally confused when we don't just roll over and take that. They've gotten so used to mis-leading their followers with easy statements and fingerpointing to blame the "other" guys - they have no clue what to do or say in an actual debate of the facts.

just to confuse him. There's no chance he's going to look at a single header. lol

Strikes me that these guys are so used to throwing their weight around, when it bounces off of someone, they don't know what to do.

That's my favorite part. :)

41. 51%
What is the 51% that Mr. Paster is talking about. If I am not mistaken in 2000 the word was just because Mr. Gore received more votes that is not what are system is all about. It is about the elector vote. So okay lets be certain that the electoral vote was counted correctly. How about a hand recount in Ohio and Florida.

Even if Bush ends up with more votes nationally isn't it the electoral vote that counts. Lets get it right!

Thank you, BradBlog, for standing up to him, and standing up for all of us. That was quite entertaining to read.

No doubt this committee is to be yet another whitewash. What a surprise.

Is there any hope at all of introducing any meaningful content into their deliberations? Would any of the committee members be willing or able to act as a proxy for Conyers? Or is it too late?

I'm concerned that this is really an anti-election reform commission, that it has been convened to make a set of "recommendations" that will actually work against transparency and auditability of results. I'd like to believe that it's not too late to do something about that.

And James Baker's appointment is nothing but a big "f*** you" to those of us who want to oppose this corruption.

30. NOTE TO BRAD - I, for one, WOULD like to write my own text
because I believe individual messages would get much more respect and attention than the same message simply blasted over and over again. Adding the p.s. was nice but once people see the duplicate text section they're not likely to bother ready the comments.

I am SO SO grateful to you for your great work and have already sent my email to Pastro from my personal email account, restating my problems with the commission.

Just wanted to make this suggestion about future email opportunities on Velvet Revolution - or even BradBlog. Pretty much anyone using your sites has enough knowledge to compose a short, personal letter about their issues. I think those would make much more of an impact and would also support the truth that each one is personal.

Thank you again, so very much Brad. I'm a big fan.

33. text of my personalized email to him
Hello - I'm writing to comment on your appearance on C-Span yesterday. Initially, I was very happy to see the critical issue of electoral fraud getting some well-deserved attention, but I quickly surmised that you have no intention of actually righting the wrongs that took place in the last two presidential elections -- and, indeed, you were probably selected for that reason.

First of all, you have to at least acknowledge the possibility that there was fraud -- real, intentional and widespread fraud -- and that we cannot continue to call ourselves a democracy, or have the audacity to think we can spread it elsewhere, if fraud is accepted.

Secondly, why are none of the grassroots groups that worked so diligently to uncover and document real, actual cases given a place at the table? Why are people like James Baker, for God's sake -- the man who ENGINEERED the fraudulent and corrupt 2000 election in Florida -- be given a place at the head of this commission?

I think I know why -- I'm sure this charade gives Bush and his crime syndicate the cover it needs to say that the issue has been looked and it and dismissed, and to initiate even more heinous policies that will further remove the citizenry from the electoral process while placing our democracy in the hands of corporate entitites that answer to no one.

Bottom line -- there WAS fraud -- we all know it. And you can't make ALL of us go away or shut up. You now have a choice: be a Bush patsy and remove one of the last remaining bricks in the foundation of democracy, or be a stand-up guy and address these problems. Get our elections out of the hands of Diebold and Jim Baker, and into the hands of the citizens of this country.

And by the way, this is a real person writing this, from a real email address. If you want to verify it, please feel free to call me at XXXXXX -- I would LOVE to talk to you.

You gotta ask yourself, why '6 or 7' and not '11 or 12' or '2 or 3' -- if you're going to make stuff up Mr Pastor, try harder next time and, in case you didn't notice, you sham, scam, partisan faux commission has been exposed.

I understand you have contacted BradBlog with the contention that there are "six or seven" people sending you reams of e-mails, and that you're being harassed.

This is NOT a form e-mail...this is ME. I have been aware for the past 5 years that America's election system is being "privatized" out to a very few computerized voting machine companies, whose "proprietary" software (which COUNTS our votes) is secret. As an American, born & bred, I am putting you, and your stacked, phony commission on notice that this will NOT be tolerated.

Your commission has excluded members who have been researching this problem for YEARS.... consistently, and incessantly. Our groups have grown by the hundreds of thousands, and are growing larger, by the day. Since the media, who are also complicit in the disinformation about elections, will not report the problems inherent in voting on these questionable "black boxes", we are working relentlessly to get the word out in community grassroots groups, citizens organizations, service organizations, and all across the internet.

Do you really believe that the majority of Americans are STUPID enough to believe the last 3 elections were legitimate? No! They (we) are NOT that stupid. We will continue to push for PAPER BALLOTS, COUNTED BY HAND, BY NON-PARTISAN GROUPS, and we will, in the end, NOT settle for less. This is one area where technological advances only give rise to an easier way to cheat -- on the parts of BOTH Democrats and Republicans, and we will not tolerate it. If pen and paper ballots are good enough for much of the rest of the world, they are good enough for the United States.

The head of the League of Women Voters has already caused a split in that organization, due to her unwillingness to support honest, transparent elections. The people are not fooled. Look at the research that has been done cooperatively by Republican and Democratic citizens, alike. Mr. Baker is SO OBVIOUSLY the wrong man to be co-chairman of that commission, it goes without saying. Even Jimmy Carter is not up to speed on the research that has been done. In fact, NOBODY on the commission has even read the research.

Please do not think that this is all going to slide by the notice of the general population. You guys are smart. But you're not that smart, if you think this will end the discussion. Until you bring in the organizations that make up the Velvet Revolution, and until you bring in John Conyers, you will just make people in the know all the more angry.

One thing we will NOT compromise on is the integrity of our elections. So don't even think about it.

Sincerely,

(my other name)

50. P.S. I asked the Admins to put this thread on the Front Page
This needs to be seen by as many DUers as possible, and I hope the Admins will understand & see it that way, too.

This is a MAJOR "activism alert" to anyone who cares about fair, honest and transparent elections in this country.

51. Here's what I wrote
Dear Mr. Pastor,

I am writing in regards to the National Election Reform Commission which you serve
as Executive Director. When I first heard that Jim Baker was going to co-chair
it, I was concerned, but was willing to give the effort the benefit of the doubt.

But after reading John Conyers' account of the proceedings, my concern has turned to
alarm. I urge you to resign the Commission and call for its dissolution and the creation of a
more balanced, honest, and open effort. The right to vote and have our votes counted - although not
guaranteed in the Constitution - is rightly cherished by Americans.

Let's get this right.

52. Great Jumping Jiminy! What an arrogant prick!
Just who's committee IS this anyway? Besides that Saudi suck-up Baker who else is on it?

He really ought to hear from all 68,000 of us.
(He's heard from ME)
