they are the group behind the "Democrats are against people of faith" shindig.
https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?c=CONTACT_FRC

send them an email and show your outrage at the Republican Party attempting to OWN religious belief. Even if you are an Atheist or Agnostic, please send them your thoughts on their attempt to wrap governmental policies and religious beliefs into one package.

here is my email to them...not much, because I am pretty pissed right now and had to work to keep it clean.

As a Christian and a Democrat, I find your reference regarding the filibuster being an action against "people of faith" personally insulting. Neither the Republican Party, the Conservatives or even George Bush himself own Christianity.

The Family Research Council is a political lobbying organization, headed by Gary Bauer spun-off from Focus on the Family.

Go DU'ers, GO.

1. mourningdove, thank you very much for posting this.
Now all I have to do is find a polite way of telling the Family Research Council to go straight to hell.

Your email to them is a winner. Thanks for that also.

3. This is what I sent them
"I am a Christian, and a Democrat. It is possible to be both. No, Democrats are not against people of faith. No, God is not a Republican. I do believe he is quite non-partisan, actually.

Witness this group here: www.catholicdemocrats.net

Many people in my church voted for Kerry. And for some of us, that was an expression of our faith as much as our politics.

Please stop trying to own God."

Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 04:36 PM by mourningdove92
this is the theme we really have to "hammer" home. (sorry, couldn't resist")

We must openly and loudly accuse the Republicans of trying to claim that they speak for God. Because in essence, that is what they are trying to shove down our throats.

Make 'em deny it. Over and Over again.

7. Thanks. I just sent a letter to the editor as well
Fired up, I am.

Here it is:

"In the article entitled "Republicans to Go on Offensive Over Judges," I took offense at Sen. Frist's assertion that Senate filibusters are being used against people of faith, as if the only people of faith were on the Republican side of the aisle. I would greatly appreciate it if Sen. Frist and others on the Religious Right would stop trying to own God.

Sen. Frist would do well to remember that God is neither Republican nor Democrat, and not insult persons of faith who do not necessarily share his his politics."

I hope they print it.

All via webforms. Also called Feingold and gave a little testimony that I was both Dem and Christian and that I was with them in the Senate. I was busy yesterday.

8. Thank you and here's my letter to them, signed, w/address, etc.
Subject: Democrats are against WHAT?
Inquiry: I am highly offended. I am a Democrat and I am a person of faith.
What I have a problem with is your attempting to manage everyone else's life according to your own religion, and you simply cannot do that.

Stop judging Democrats. In fact, stop judging. If you people put all your effort into worthwhile tasks such as illiteracy, poverty, education, etc., this would be a wonderful country.

GIVE IT A REST!

I'll post their reply if I get one!

Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 08:33 PM by ProudDad
Subject: Activist Judges

Of course, you seem to be ignoring the fact that it was "Activist Judges" who ENDED the legal segregation against the wishes of the white "Christian" churches of the South. I was there at the time and remember the bile and vitriol flowing from the pulpits into the ears of the KKK.

If there is a God, I'm pretty certain s/he would be horrified to learn of your blasphemous activities.

Have a nice day...

Of course, you have to give them your name and address to send anything. I'll probably have to block mail from them soon...

18. OMG! I feel so SOILED!
I never, EVER, thought I would read anything written that is more horrifying than Freeperville. Freepers are a walk in the park compared to the FRC.

:puke:

I'm recommending this thread, because FRC needs to hear from us.

Folks, if you get a chance, stop on over at Hunter's diary on kos, plus kos himself has a diary just on this FRC group (both front page). Here's Hunter's diary:

19. Forgot to mention - "Frist Alert"
From the kos diary I linked to above was the following post:

Frist Alert--He's coming to Louisville on 4/24 (none / 1)

The mega-church where Frist will use the Bible to stomp the US Constitution on Sunday 4/24 is HIGHLAND BAPTIST CHURCH at 7711 Fegenbush Lane, in Louisville Ky., (502) 239-7711. Maybe the people at Highland Baptist would like to hear your thoughts on Frist's abuse of power.

20. bumping for the weekend crew
We really need to bombard the FRC site and Senator Frist.

We must now allow the Republican Party to continue to "own" God, regligon and faith. What they are saying is that every thing Bush does is "godly" ergo....anyone who stands against him is therefore "ungodly".

This is the mindset they are selling.

22. Contacted him
This is so insane. We find ourselves in the position of defending freedom of religion rather than theocracy as he preaches. In the meantime GW is draining our economic resources and transferring them to his corporate global warlords. Our kids are dying in the process of this insanity. It's Twilight Zone revisited.

I just signed them up for a bunch of mailing lists and submitted their phone number as well...

I can only imagine the look on some innocent little receptionist's face when telemarketers start calling with special deals for Richard Littledick...

edit to add: It's also fun to sign their board members up for information from the armed forces...
