Buchanan called for sending "federal marshals" to reinsert Schiavo's feeding tube, but labeled federal intervention for Elian Gonzalez "police-state tactics"

MSNBC political analyst and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan advocated sending "federal marshals" into the hospital room of Terri Schiavo to reinsert her feeding tube. Yet when the Clinton administration sent U.S. marshals to seize Elian Gonzalez from his great-uncle's Miami home and return him to Cuba in 2000, Buchanan described the government's intervention as "a police-state tactic one associates with a Communist tyranny, not the United States."

On the March 23 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, Buchanan asserted: "What George Bush ought to do right now is send federal marshals in and pick up Terri Schiavo and put that ... food and hydration tube back into her." Buchanan added: "Action ... creates consensus."

1. They missed a crucial point with Elian Gonzalez:
"Yet when the Clinton administration sent U.S. marshals to seize Elian Gonzalez from his great-uncle's Miami home and return him TO HIS FATHER IN Cuba in 2000..."

4. I don't think that plan would work
I doubt federal marshalls know how to insert a feeding tube.

5. Sounds fair to me. Then immediately afterwards
those same marshalls can arrest Bush for murder and treason, thus saving the lives of countless thousands more human beings.

6. So, Buchanan is advocating insurrection?
Gee, and I thought a veteran of the Nixon administration would be all for law and order. Now, it turns out, only the laws that Mr. Buchanan personally agrees with are to be enforced, and the ones he disagrees with are to be broken at gunpoint.

Very nice. If nothing else, this causes the fascist mask to slip a little bit. I wonder if the media airwaves will be filled in the coming weeks about what "every" conservawhacko thinks, and how "every" conservawhacko needs to either publicly disavow Buchanan's lunatic rantings or be presumed to agree with them.

7. Yeah, I was getting tired of the whole rule of law...
... and checks and balances thing anyway. Lets get back to our roots, and by that I mean a chaotic reign of terror and force.

8. Pat understands
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 08:38 PM by necso
the importance of the believe-what-you-are-made-to-believe* (or at least act like it) line to the triumph of the Republicans from way back when. When enough people believe (completely consciously or otherwise -- and otherwise is often more effective than completely consciously) some form of nonsense or the other, it becomes reality for most intents and purposes (except for those "little" things like dealing efficiently and effectively with the world around us) -- and those who know better are left to gnash their teeth and argue fruitlessly. Pat also understand the importance of extremism disguised as religious belief (ie, the fundies) or as patriotism to the current success of the Republicans.

And Pat understands that when you are dealing with a belief-cloud** that you can drag it one way or another. Pat has no problem with the cloud being dragged in the theocracy direction... or with dragging it there.. And he certainly has no problem with dragging it in the Pat direction.

People who can think "hey, maybe this is bullshit" (about some thing -- and especially about every thing) are anathema (and potential bane) to what the pugs are doing these days.

...

*: There are other related lines of importance. These include:
1) Believe-the-party-line.
2) Believe-some-line-or-the-other. (That then can be exploited at least.)
3) Believe-what's-convenient (or easy -- and suits their purposes).
4) Believe-the-lies-of-the-day.
...And etc.

These lines are all part of the more general "just-believe" line that is (and is intended to be) the end of logic, reason, etc, etc -- except where our overlords wish to use these tools for their own purposes.

**: Belief cloud -- a group of related belief systems (all held in large part essentially as matters of belief as opposed to matters of reason and actual knowledge of reality, etc) sharing some beliefs in common, but not all.

...

And, in any event, Pat is not about to be constrained by consistency (or much of anything else) -- it's about winning -- and exploiting everything and every opportunity to that end.

And, frankly, I hate giving him any "press" at this point.
