Dennis Kucinich,, Lynn Woolsey and Ron Paul recognized as American Heroes
A roomful of people and kids at the Patrick Henry Democratic Club meeting tonight voted unanimously to recognize Dennis Kucinich, Lynn Woolsey and Ron Paul as American Heroes. Dennis was recognized for his re-introduction of the Department of Peace legislation. Lynn Woolsey was recognized for H Con Res 35, calling for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

Ron Paul, a Republican, was recognized for voting against the Iraq Appropriations Bill, against the Faith Based Jobs Bill and against the Real ID Act. Ron Paul's voting record is more pro-Democrat than that of Pelosi and many other Democrats. Ron Paul was also the one who alerted people to the dangers of PATRIOT II (the Intelligence Reform Act). Wonder if he can be convinced to switch parties.

1. devil's in the details
HR Con 35, not exactly an immediate withdrawal regardless of consequences to Iraq. It's always the case, when you bother to look at the details in what these people say they're supporting.

(1) develop and implement a plan to begin the immediate withdrawal of United States Armed Forces from Iraq;

(2) develop and implement a plan for reconstructing Iraq's civil and economic infrastructure;

(3) convene an emergency meeting of Iraq's leadership, Iraq's neighbors, the United Nations, and the Arab League to create an international peacekeeping force in Iraq and to replace United States Armed Forces in Iraq with Iraqi police and Iraqi National Guard forces to ensure Iraq's security; and

(4) take all steps necessary to provide the Iraqi people with the opportunity to completely control their internal affairs.

5. Yeah Ron Paul is more pro-Dem than Pelosi *rolls eyes*
He's a good LIBERTARIAN so of course, he's against any foreign aid and "big government." That also means he against the safety net and many core Democratic principles. I don't see Pelosi with a 100% John Birch Society voting record, 76% from the Christian Coalition, 88% Eagle Forum, 100% Gun Owners of America, 73% National Right to Life to name a few, oh anti-labour too! What a great person to switch.

He's obviously not a Democrat in even a generous philosophical sense.

8. Pelosi voted for Patriot II and for the Iraq Appropriations.
Her voting record could use a lot of improvement.

13. And I agree, Pelosi has had a tendency to go along with the
establishment in the past and now as leader and vote incorrectly on certain key bills. Too many times instead of arguing why something is wrong Dems vote for this "I don't want to be seen as anti-US or against the troops" reason. Then the Repubs still go after them (see Max Cleland who had a moderate record but the Repubs painted him as some kinda commie).

And I actually respect Ron Paul. He votes his ideology with no apologies whether it may the public view or not. I just don't see him as ever being a good Democrat (unlikely he'd switch anyway). He's too conservative, even reactionary on many issues. He'd severely curtail federal involvement in many areas. I think he's called for the revocation of civil rights laws and social security (no partial privatization, complete elimination) because they are not in the Fed's constitutional power to do.
