1. He can't do that....and if he did, I can assure you that there would be
mass protests in the streets across this country...

And I would know its time to pack the bags and the Pachababies and plan to start leaving the country, because that will be my cue that * and his Neo-con cabal have officially started the final take over.

2. Figured this was their fallback option. For fantasizing at least.
Scarcely less objectionable than what Santorum said about the courts thumbing their noses at Congress as if they had, you know, independence, were a separate branch of government, etc.

You can bring a judge to water but you cannot make him rule.

7. I agree totally. I have an idea. Those who support this idea
should stage a "living protest" by going on feeding tubes themselves. This would be the moment when they emulate those Iranians who beat themselves with big chains every year to emulate the suffering of their guru (or whatever he's called).

5. And what exactly would the idiot do with her after that?
Where would he have the Federal Marshalls take her? To the pig ranch?

Hell, send her to Rim Job's house. Let the head Freep pay her bills.

19. Hey, you're asking them to think things out.
And if they take her...is that a legal abduction? Could that be construed as holding her against her will? Her husband is her legal guardian and he'd have standing to bring suit, I'd think. Wouldn't that be a violation of her civil rights?

9. In a way, I'd like to see Bush do it. It would leave a lasting --
-- impression of him and his puppetmasters as an administration of criminal tyranny.

I don't think it will happen. Alberto Gonzales will advise against it. On public relations grounds.

Wow, what a combo! Freepers and Christian Scientists...then the Freepers would have their own newspaper outlet, just like the Moonies.

12. My guess is the Repugs have done all they ever planned to do...
Callous as it sounds, now they're best "served" to just sit back...wait for her to die. From a "Christian" standpoint, Easter would "benefit" their "spin" most). Then they'll turn Teri into a Martyr, and hold themselves up as her would-be Saviours...had the Courts and the Liberal Left only let them "save her."

This is soooo calculating, and disgusting.

17. BINGO--You get the prize!!!!
They do not WANT this quest to succeed, for a BUNCH of reasons!

First, if everyone gets to live on life support, even if a noncustodial relative just SAYS so, health care costs go through the roof. No more disconnecting Baby Suns! The state MUST pay, because ALL LIFE, even unaware life, is MANDATED to be PRECIOUS! They don't want to foot that bill. No way!

Second, they own all branches of government, but they have to make their base of religious nuts feel as though they are a bunch of Davids fighting a mighty Goliath...what better way to do that than have this case become a rallying cry?

They'll boohoo about this for years to come in the appropriate forums, when it suits their political purposes, but I'll bet they are breathing a HUGE sigh of relief right about now.

He'll just let her die (what...you thought he really gave a **** about her or her parents?), and then, once she's dead, issue a dignified and sorrowful statment "regretting that our concern for life could not be heard," and let all his minions go around blaming the Democrats and liberals for having "killed Terri."

:puke:

27. Exactly
This was never, ever, ever about Terri Schiavo. They've used her and now she is allowed to die. They never cared one whit about her and most of us here could see that. I wish the folk in freeper land could see it. But then I guess that would require frontal lobes which seem in very short supply over there.

25. They are upset because in their minds, this is another Elian story,
only Janet Reno was able to get something accomplished in Florida, and Bush and his brother have been unable to get anything accomplished, which makes them and the pro-life movement look weak.

A big downside to being the "macho" party is that signs of weakeness aren't well tolerated. Bush is their action hero. What kind of action hero doesn't save the girl?

I think it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think this will be the first of many defeats Bush is going to be faced with in this term. Will the fundies make good on their threats to end their support? Will the moderates, attracted to Bush's tough-guy image finally start to see through the veneer?

32. The Freepers are insane
Stark, raving, living-on-a-religious-compound-in-the-middle-of-the-woods, bark-at-the-moon insane. 90% of them also believe that the earth is less than 6000 years old, and a couple of them have even managed to convince themselves that Dubya got into Yale because he was smart. Heck, even the GOP operatives who come up with the talking points the Freepers frantically regurgitate think they're nuts.

Pay no attention to the inmates in the Freepitarium.

Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:02 AM by susu369
"Bill Frist and Tom DeLay and Jim Sensenbrenner and Denny Hastert and all the rest would be better off risking looking ridiculous and flying down to Florida, standing outside Terri Schiavo's room and physically restraining the poor harassed staff who may be told soon to remove her feeding tube, than standing by in Washington, helpless and tied in legislative knots, and doing nothing."
