Kerry's new newspaper endorsements
Mods,
I have only included intros from these editorials. I don't have links because this info came in an email.

The Cabinet Press (NH)

Kerry's the choice

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is a man of experience in foreign and
domestic affairs and that counts in an increasingly complex world.

That is one reason that he is the Cabinet's choice for the Democratic
nomination for president the Jan. 27 First in the Nation New Hampshire
primary.

NH -THE VALLEY NEWS: SENATOR KERRY

22 January 2004

Heading into the 2004 election, American voters have reason to be
concerned about the health of the economy and the economics of health,
but the overriding concern is the ultimate public health issue --
national security. Prosecuting the war on terrorism, handling the
aftermath of the war in Iraq, mending this country's strained
relationships with allies, and striking the proper balance between
liberty and security are the issues that will and should dominate the
coming campaign. John Kerry, the veteran senator from Massachusetts, has
proved himself the Democratic candidate most capable of addressing those
matters and offering a compelling alternative to the George W. Bush
presidency.

Unlike the incumbent president, Kerry did not need to experience a
direct attack on American soil to awaken his interest in foreign
affairs. The son of a foreign service officer, Kerry first achieved
prominence through his involvement in Vietnam Veterans Against the War,
which he joined after decorated Naval service in Southeast Asia. Kerry's
published journals from his tour of duty and his eloquent 1971 testimony
to Congress -- "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a
mistake?" -- speak of a man who is battle-tested both literally and
figuratively and who has thought long and hard about the enormous
consequences of going to war. Both qualities would provide a welcome
change from Bush.

BOSTON GLOBE: KERRY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

22 JANUARY 2004

AN ENDORSEMENT from this newspaper for John Kerry, the junior senator

from Massachusetts for almost 20 years, may not seem like news. But we

think our close familiarity with the candidate gives our assessment of

him more credibility, not less. Kerry has inspired, impressed, and

sometimes infuriated us since he first became the top assistant in the

Middlesex district attorney's office in 1977. It is precisely because we

know him so well that The Boston Globe can be confident in endorsing

John Forbes Kerry for the Democratic presidential nomination in the New

Hampshire primary on Jan. 27.

BOSTON HERALD: SEN. JOHN KERRY DEMS' BEST LEADER

22 January 2004

Editorial

If we have learned anything since the 2000 presidential election it is

that in a dangerous and uncertain world there is no substitute for a

steady hand at the nation's helm, guided by a lifetime of experience.

And that, at the end of the day, is what Sen. John Kerry has to offer

the Democratic Party as its nominee for president - a 35-year record of

service to his nation and to this state.

BOSTON PHOENIX: VOTE KERRY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

22 January 2004

Editorial

We endorse John Kerry for the Democratic nomination.

JOHN KERRY returned to New Hampshire after his table-turning victory in

the Iowa caucuses a new candidate: less cocky, more focused, more human.

Kerry has learned and grown on the campaign trail, and that has

re-energized his campaign, which, until the Iowa turnaround, appeared to

be heading for the margins of the presidential race. Kerry is again a

contender, and we hope that New Hampshire voters will maintain Kerry's

momentum by voting him to the top of the ticket in next week's primary.

If Iowa offers any indication of what Democrats and independent

progressive voters at large are looking for, it boils down to these two

questions: who has the best shot of beating Bush? And who is best

qualified to be president?

3. Edwards played nice in Iowa and people liked him
is there any real evidence that the average person pays attention to these endorsements, especially when newspaper readership is down

8. I think Kerry proved that too
He picked up a few from the smaller (than the Register) papers in Iowa.

Who knows how much they'll help in NH but, they can't hurt.

4. These are newspapers- big difference
I think the problem with politicians endorsing is that they can backfire due to personal grievances amongst constituents. Newspapers I think are percieved as more neutral and objective, and they definitely go into a lot more detail as to why.

6. Should the media be endorsing anyone?
I think that the newspapers should be well... providing the news.
