1. Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins is best teacher for
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 08:20 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
what the World Bank does...it is an incredible read....everyone please read it?

John Perkins describes himself as a former economic hit man - a highly paid professional who cheated countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars.

20 years ago Perkins began writing a book with the working title, "Conscience of an Economic Hit Men."

Perkins writes, "The book was to be dedicated to the presidents of two countries, men who had been his clients whom I respected and thought of as kindred spirits - Jaime Roldós, president of Ecuador, and Omar Torrijos, president of Panama. Both had just died in fiery crashes. Their deaths were not accidental. They were assassinated because they opposed that fraternity of corporate, government, and banking heads whose goal is global empire. We Economic Hit Men failed to bring Roldós and Torrijos around, and the other type of hit men, the CIA-sanctioned jackals who were always right behind us, stepped in.

John Perkins goes on to write: "I was persuaded to stop writing that book. I started it four more times during the next twenty years. On each occasion, my decision to begin again was influenced by current world events: the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1980, the first Gulf War, Somalia, and the rise of Osama bin Laden. However, threats or bribes always convinced me to stop."

9. banking heads whose goal is global empire.
This one small quip says it all. Imperialism on the rise and it's leader is the USA.

2. Traditionally, the US selects the World Bank President
and Europe selects the IMF President

Europe has to accept Wolfowitz -- and I don't think they will, necessarily

3. The same reason only US and sometimes Canadian baseball teams ...
win the World Series? Or NBA World Championship teams only play US teams? Or Superbowl World Champs are in the US?

4. exact same thought
I had the exact same thought when I saw the news last evening saying that Bush had -appointed- Wolfowitz to the post. Fortunately, it was on BBC World, and the anchor's last words were: but ---- said the Wolfowitz was unqualified.

My first thought was: why does Bush get to appoint someone to head the World Bank?

And then: why someone as stupid and arrogant as Wolfowitz?

I pity the world community in a way, but even more so I feel contempt for them because they are, basically, cowards if they don't stand up and prevent this from happening.

5. No, he doesn't.
All the idiot can do is nominate someone. Traditionally an American has always been appointed. Hopefully that won't be the case this time.

6. McNamara was Johnson's parting gift to the WB
Vietnam was his legacy. This is right in that tradition.
