NEWS from John Edwards
Dear Friends,

This is Chris Winn. I work for John Edwards' One America organization.
For those of you who don't know me, I also worked on John Edwards'
presidential campaign and have been active in grassroots ever since.

I'm e-mailing you or posting on your blog with the help of people who
are not only great friends but also great supporters of the grassroots.
Today, we're announcing some exciting news.

John Edwards is embracing an exciting new medium for mobilizing the
grassroots and getting the word out: podcasting.

What is podcasting? Simply put, it is an MP3 audio file. Rather than
downloading it like any other MP3, you subscribe to it. Then, it shows
up on your computer or your favorite digital music player. Best of
all, since it is a free subscription, every time a new podcast becomes
available, it automatically downloads. So you are kept up to date and
the latest podcast is always waiting for you! Consider it an Internet
radio show that comes directly to your doorstep!

To make this podcast successful, we need your help.

First, submit a question to John Edwards by e-mailing
[email protected]. He will choose as many questions as
possible to answer during the podcast.

Second, visit One America's Web site
(http://www.oneamericacommittee.com) to stay up to date on when the
podcast will become available.

Third, tell your friends about the podcast. It's a new medium and we
need to get the word out!

Finally, visit your favorite blogs and forums. Tell everyone about
John Edwards' podcast and invite them to get involved, too.

Thank you all so much for giving me a moment of your time. I hope you
are as excited as I am about this new endeavor. Get the word out!

Sincerely,

Chris Winn

8. I'm a bit slow
Took me more than 2 seconds. So sue me.

I dunno if I can subscribe though. Will it be safe to sleep in the same room as my computer?

Actually, I just hope it will work on my ancient Mac.

Hearing the man speak makes a BIG difference.

15. The thing I wonder
is why do you have to subscribe to hear him speak? I know a lot of singers (indie and signed) who have sections on their site's where fans and supporters can see special message video's or something like that.

27. You'll be able to get the mp3 directly from the site if you want to.
Using podcast software means that you wont have to remember to look for the most recent update. The software checks all the sites to which you've subscribed for new content and let's you know when there's something new.

This solves one of the biggest hurdles to keeping people thinking about the podcast. Podcasters don't provide content regularly enough, and don't have commercials. Think of TV. You know Veronica Mars is on every Tuesday at 9 on UPN, and if you forget, you might see a commerical. So, you remember to tune in.

Well, before podcast software, not only was content provided irregularly, but if you didn't check the web site regularly, you'd forget all about it, which was easy to do, since they don't have commericials.

Podcast software is pretty brilliant, if you ask me. It solves a lot of problems. It keeps people notified of new content provided by people who can't run ads on TV or in your local paper to remind you that their content is available to you.

4. Let's have a Podcast on Election Fraud
there is still so much progress happening out there, let's
have a national podcast discussion about it...

I think John rocks.. I heard rumor he broke with Kerry on the 'concession'. Wonder if anyone could shed some light? I think edwards would have fought till there was no man standing.....

good to hear he's veering off in his own empowered direction.... go Johnny Go! get technical...

10. That's what I heard, too...
But it was not from any official source. The quick concession was very out of character for John Edwards and I imagine if he had been the top of the ticket things might have een very different. The man fights for what he believes in. Unfortunately, that one wasn't his call.

12. Rumor is the term
The last NYTimes article says they are still close and visit regularly.

For the rest, I guess every team tries to be better than the other one on the subject, but from what I heard, once the OH results were really known, everybody agreed to concede.

But great news that Edwards is doing these podcasts. He is a good man.

16. I think Edwards is great
and Kerry too of course. I remember reading an article where they were writing that Edwards' kids went to visit John and Teresa and Teresa let them take home some cake to their parents and that John and John still talk reguarly. I'm glad to see that and they're really good friends. :) I remember not long ago Mr. Will Pitt posted an update on Kerry and Edwards coming in to help with all the election stuff.

17. It's nice to know
they're still friends.

It's also possible that if one decides to run, the other might not. Then again, both are quite ambitious so who knows.

22. They should probably let the people decide and not make an issue of...
...the fact that they were on the same ticket.

And if Edwards won in the primaries, wouldn't it be fascinating if he picked Kerry as his VP?

24. sec of state or attorney general
i don't think Kerry would be vp. but i think if Edwards is elected President he would offer Kerry any position he wants in the administration and if Kerry accepts it would probably be secretary of state or attorney general.

i think he would see whether Dems have control of Senate by that time. if they do then he would have a powerful position in committees as Chairman and decide to stay there. but if they don't then he would probably want something like sec of state or attorney general .

I somehow don't see Kerry goin for the VP position after being the nomination once.

26. Symbolically, I think it would be powerful to have a former Vietnam vet
and anti-war activist as Secretary of State.

I think that would send a very interesting message to the rest of the world.

7. Ok, I want to be educated.
What is a Pod, and how much does a Pod cost?
Will poor people be able to afford the "Pod" and listen to Edwards speak for them?
Will the Pod break the growing momentum of the Internet and blogging, and split activists up by medium?
Would the pod give the media back the power they are losing via blogging?

I need to know these things, cause these days, I'm skeptical about EVERYTHING!

And download free ipodder software. You don't need an ipod. The podcast can be delivered to your e-mailbox. I suggest you ask John Edwards the rest of your questions. This is a new medium for me, too!

18. Response from Chris Winn re your question...
Podcasting complements the rest of the Internet - and it's completely free. Podcasting, along with tools like blogs, are made possible by the grassroots - people like you that care enough about this democracy to get involved. The "pod" as you call it is one more tool we have to speak out, and I'm personally glad John Edwards is embracing something so exciting to those of us so involved in the grassroots.

30. I know....
That's true and sadly that is the reality for a lot of americans despite the fact that we ARE the richest nation in the world, and yet we are lagging behind in our technological advancements behind countries that are still developing... But I think they'll probably post a trancript on the website.

14. Great
I think this is a great move by John edwards... it gives him an opportunity to directly (in some ways) communicate with his supporters and others who might want to know more about his ideas and opinions on the issues of the day. I already sent him my question and hope to listen to him next week... podcasting may not be used as much as blogs and forums, but its still an excellent upcoming tool to employ for any kind of web activism.

20. There's a local moderated radio program in my town.
They interview someone in the news and my local NPR affiliate airs the discussions. I've been to a couple of the tapings and I've noticed that the moderators are generally not liberal, even though their guests often are. They take questions from the audience, but you have to write them down and the moderator then asks the questions.

Sometimes they read the questions verbatim, but they always pick the ones that work into whatever conservative frame best suits the purpose of making the guest sound like an idiot. Needless to say, they've never asked any of my questions.

I was at a taping recently where I am so sure that all the questions were so helpful to the progressive guest that the moderator wouldn't even read the questions. He grouped them into "themes" and then asked his own tangentially-related (I'm sure) questions. That interview still hasn't made it on the air.

Obviously, Edwards can pick and chose his questions to suit his purposes, but I prefer that way more to the questions being mediated by some RW stooge. Furthemore, it's nice to see progressives using technology so that their message can get to the public with as little RW mediation as possible (or, in this case, without any RW mediation at all).

33. OK you guys, tell me about MP3's.
I have a desktop, Cable broadband, and listen to all my favorite radio via the net, but I don't bother with MP3's because the music I want is on CD's.

So tell me, Can I get this poscast in a email? Can I hear it on my computer?

Don't beat me up. I'm 62, and do quite well with technology, but just never had an interest in MP3's.
