Bush is "just getting started" on Social Security
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 05:40 PM by BeyondGeography
From the Greenspan/Clinton Clash article in the Chronicle:

<Although recent polls show most Americans are opposed to personal accounts, Bush said he's heartened by figures that show most people recognize Social Security has financial problems. He said he is committed to finding a solution.

"I'm just getting started on this issue," Bush said from the Oval Office Tuesday.>

Hmmmm, we had the SOTU speech, a huge portion of which was dedicated to overhauling SS, a national tour of red states with Democratic Senators, the Santorum/Pubster Town Meetings, etc., And we're "just getting started."

So we're left to ponder what's next. Some ideas for Junior:

•Declare National Day of Mourning for the Lamentable State of Social Security.

•Organize Prayer Breakfast around the theme of getting America to see the light on Social Security.

•Develop color-code scheme to illustrate the Lamentable State of Social Security.

•Re-brand Social Security as "Hillary Care."

•Equate supporters of Social Security with gay marriage advocates (wait, that's already been done).

1. Release a tape that shows Bin Laden praising Social Security.
Inform all of the fundie churches that SS is the work of Satan.

Make sure everyone knows the Rapture is coming soon, so it's heretical to worry about retirement money now.

3. Make the asshole put 'pen to paper' and share his wisdom on how
to fix SS. The longer he goes without doing that... the more it is a tool to exhaust Democrats and cause apathy. They will go on for another year like this and then when everyone is exhausted and 'don't care anymore' they will put it through or replace it with a new tax system that erased any hint of progressiveness.

Make him put his plan on paper. Don't let him get away with being vague "Oh I will tell you about it later when it is just you and I". This way he can turn one congressman at a time for his plan...as they each get exhausted and die.

MAKE HIM PUT HIS PLANS ON PAPER!

4. Stick a fork in it, George...
And while you're at it stick a sock in it too.
You're moseying around the hinterland like Mr. Haney trying to sell the Haney Egg-Layin' Inducing Machine and you just don't get it...nobody's buying that sonuvabitch so how 'bout you just stick it back in your flivver, head on back to D.C., and quit wasting our money.

6. Let's not misunderestimate King George the Sociopath.
This miserable excuse for a human being has, over the past four years, successfully pushed through countless pieces of legislation that screw the middle class and the poor, while increasing the profits of big business.

The most current example is the bankruptcy bill they passed last week. And of course there's the prescription drug addition to Medicare that only benefits the pharmaceutical industry.

Many Republicans in congress agree with the aims of this despicable administration, and those who don't are bullied and threatened into going along.

The idea that the idiot child and his handlers could actually destroy social security doesn't seem plausible. But who would have believed what we've seen over the past four years would have been plausible? And these swine are just getting started.

7. Make the pie higher, while we're at it
Unfortunately, you're correct. What a long, strange, strategery-filled nightmare this has been. I'd only note that the bills you cite enjoyed crossover support from the Dems and this time we're holding firm. If that changes, he'll win, and the Dems will be officially irrelevant.

8. this is good news--Shrub never does what he says he will
I suggest we start a pool on how early the SS road show folds its tent and steals (and I mean that) away quietly.

My bet: next Monday something will come up. Orange alert? maybe...
