Tom Daschle Running for Senate In Maryland or Minnesota???
No, I assure you, I'm not being hallucigenic.

MARYLAND RUMOR

This comes to us from the Washington Post:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A64660-2005Mar2?language=printer

"There were fragments of strategy. New York's Chuck Schumer leaned in toward Daschle and whispered that Mikulski's fellow senator, Paul Sarbanes, "is really thinking of you, and Maryland . . . " He went inaudible. (Hmmm. A South Dakotan running for senator in the Free State? It worked for a native Illinoisan who moved to New York.) One consultant said to another, "I have a plan for rebranding ourselves in the South. I'll send you a position paper." "

MINNESOTA RUMOR

It gets stranger and stranger still. Apparently, on Wednesday during the Ed Schultz show, the idea was brought up of moving the recently defeated Tom Daschle into Minnesota to run for the seat being vacated by Mark Dayton.

1. *blink* *blink* Whaaat? I seriously just said, "Dubya-tee-eff, mate?"
Daschle? Minnesota? Man, I don't even know what to think about that. I love Daschle, but that is a very, very odd thought.

2. I don't think Daschle has a chance of winning the Dem primary
in MD. Too many good Marylanders want the job.

I find it hard to believe that anyone is considering this.

4. hmmmmm
I just have two questions:

1) Would he come back with new spine?

2) Could he accept being just one of 45 when before he was leader?

7. I just don't see this going over well in Minnesota
We have a lot of good DFlers interested in the seat, we don't need to import someone.

Buh-bye. You're done. Go hang with the earthworms, jellyfish and slimemolds, where your lack of spine will fit in nicely.

she is the reason we have a Republican governor. She ran the worst campaign ever. We have brighter lights than her.

15. Just a wild idea that Ed tossed out
there is no realistic chance that he could be elected in Minnesota in 2006. He is an outsider and like it or not still has lots of mud from the last race. The Republcians would have a field day with him up here, whereas some of our stronger local canidiates have stronger reputations with higher risks to turn the slime machine up too much for the GOP.

Daschle's best chance is to run for Gov of SD or Senator again in the future (maybe a rematch with Thune).

Frist is leaving office and he would have a better shot at the senate here than Harold Ford.

18. Losing Daschle in 2004 was one of the only good things
to happen to democrats. Now we have reid, and I wouldn't trade him for anyone. This is foolish, and more proof of how politically incompetent daschle is.

29. i know we lost a seat..
but we gained a leader. Daschle wouldn't have had the cajones to fight on social security. A thinning of the heard is what this party needed to wake up.

20. I think there are good candidates from both states
Betty McCollum from Minnesota. Kweisi Mfume, Doug Duncan or Martin O'Malley (whichever one doesn't end up running for Governor) and just about every one of the 6 Democratic US Reps from Maryland. Maybe Daschle should run against one of the DINO's Feinstein or Lieberman in the primaries just for the hell of it.

Hillary Clinton may have been a native and resident of Illinois

but she was for many years a resident of Arkansas after being a resident of Illinois.

Each state has different residency requirements to be a U.S. Senator

What are the residency requirements for Minnesota and Maryland?

28. 30 Days in district for MN
Look at page 2:
http://www.sos.state.mn.us/election/candidate.pdf

After 30 days in the district you are in, you can run for office.

There have been many Senators that were natives of other states but became Senators of another state. If the definition of a native is in reference to Hillary Clinton.
