republicans in Congress are the BIGGEST assholes in the world.
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 09:46 AM by Bouncy Ball
"While Democrats sought only an increase in the minimum wage with their proposal, Republicans expanded theirs to include business regulatory relief as well as tax breaks totaling $4.2 billion, most of it directed toward the restaurant industry.

Forty-one Democrats, four Republicans and one independent voted for the Democratic proposal (ro raise minimum wage). All the votes in opposition were cast by Republicans.

All 38 votes in favor of the GOP proposal were cast by Republicans. Opposed were 43 Democrats, one independent and 17 Republicans."

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=560837&page...

SEE what the repukes care about? They care about giving BUSINESSES MORE TAX RELIEF. Businesses already pay incredibly low taxes. TAX BREAKS TOTALLING $4.2 BILLION. Regular everday people working their hump off to feed their families? Fuck 'em. That's the republican message.

Make hay out of this, people. Tell every person you know making minimum wage, or every person you THINK is barely making it that EVERY REPUBLICAN IN THE SENATE VOTED AGAINST RAISING THEIR PAY.

Tell them.

Yeah. Any lurking right wingers reading this who get by from paycheck to paycheck, your party will NEVER vote for you. They will NEVER, EVER care that you barely get by. They DON'T care about you. I have a party in which every single member in Congress voted to RAISE YOUR PAY. But your party gave you a great big "fuck you." And believe me, that isn't the first time they've done it, either.

The federal minimum wage is a CRYING SHAME and you cannot support yourself, much less a family on it. It requires you to have two and three jobs and in an economy where it can be hard to find ONE job, we have too many Americans falling through the cracks and

REPUBLICANS DO NOT CARE.

My parents always told me, you want to know the true measure of a person, you look at their actions, not their words. This is a wonderful example of why I have NEVER voted republican and as long as they resemble the party they are today, I NEVER WILL. Ever.

Tell everyone you know who makes min. wage or who you THINK is making min wage. Everyone you know who is barely making it. I don't care if they vote or not, TELL THEM that republicans voted against raising their pay AGAIN.

2. Edited to change title line to "in Congress"
instead of "in the Senate" because you are right. I was focused on the Senate because they took this particular vote.

Assholes, every last one of the repukes. They don't care about ANY of the everyday working people and every time they have a little photo op with some poor sap all hugging on them and acting like they care, I want to vomit.

3. News flash
Republicans do not care.

Many of the people who would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage actually voted for the Republicans who not only don't care about them but openly brag about it.

4. And this is where they are hit directly.
I didn't see any story about it, just a blurb in a little scrolley thing on the bottom of Good Morning America (my daughter watches it).

So I say tell everyone you know who is making min. wage or who is otherwise barely making it "republicans in the Senate voted against raising your pay today."

If they truly DON'T mind, they deserve it. But a LOT of hard working people DO mind. And a lot of them DON'T VOTE, remember.

8. If anyone making minimum wage votes Republican ...
they deserve what they get. Maybe one day they'll pull their heads out of their asses. I only feel sorry for people that voted Democrat and make minimum wage.

money to spend on duping the electorate.

9. I have always felt that Congress Critters should be paid the Minimum
Wage and no perks.

Perhaps then they would see just how horrid they truly are.

Or....the MW would raise to $60 an hr....

11. You need to tone back the rhetoric
It's not all Republicans.

Note how Santorum's bill was soundly defeated while Kennedy's version narrowly missed passing.

14. Santorum's bill was soundly defeated because it
contained a TINY increase in the minimum wage, and despite the gimmes also in that bill for big business, republicans wouldn't vote for it in enough numbers for it to pass BECAUSE OF THE SMALL RAISE IN MINIMUM WAGE IT CONTAINED.

Which makes the whole picture even worse, now doesn't it?

Which means my rhetoric is just fine the way it is, thankyouverymuch.

15. Are the Republicans who voted Nay on record backing that up?
What about the ones that voted Yea? Are they all on record for supporting the other measures and not the slight raise?

We all know the GOP is being herded by the pursestrings but I still don't like generalizations.

12. Shh, Don't give them ideas!
I mean, can you imagine what would happen if minimum wage was enough to live off?

People wouldn't need 2 or 3 jobs just to pay the rent. All the people working 16 hour days split between 2 or 3 jobs could quit to concentrate on 1. Their productivity would rise!

Thousands of new jobs would suddenly appear due to the people leaving to concentrate on 1 job. Unemployment levels would drop!

People might even be able to save some money for investments or simple spending money. The economy might pick up!
