Check out the Lebanon protests! MASSIVE!
Hundreds of thousands of people, possible over a million. CNN's cameras can't zoom out far enough to show them all in one shot. HUGE HUGE anti-American protest. Lebanese flags and "America is the source of Terrorism" signs EVERYWHERE!

CNN anchors say "Thousands turn out to protest."

"Thousands?" Do they think we can't see the pictures they're broadcasting? Or, I get, even a thousand thousands is still "thousands" technically.

Reminds me of their reports of "hundreds" turning out see Big Dawg in Philly. "You are STUPID, America, and we're the most trusted name in news."

You know that whenever anyone says "trust me," you shouldn't.

2. Just saw Imus Show
Again, they said Thousands of protestors but did say that the Square was filled....which would indicate more than thousands....so Charles and the dippy woman had to go out of their way to say that the demonstrators DID NOT represent the MAJORITY of Lebanese.

Anything contra to Dubya's assertions have to be struck down immediately or the checks will stop flowing!!!!

3. The SQUARE was filled? Have you seen the pics?
The CITY if filled. People as far as the eye can see. The Concert In Central Park, X3. Or 4.

Again, "America is the source of terrorism" signs everywhere. I'm sure they'll stop showing close-ups soon. No one has "Freedom is on the March" banners.

5. CNN is doing live shots
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 09:17 AM by Atman
Unfortunately, it's CNN...you can see with your own eyes as they lie to you and say the massive crowd is "thousands."

But who knows...the last feed, just a minute ago, the reporter said thousands are still streaming in. So my guess is that we'll stop seeing live pictures soon. They don't jibe with the bullshit -- er, address -- on Syria Bushler is scheduled to deliver this morning.

14. That pic shows one small fraction of the crowd.
Pretend it was a video...the camera could pan another 15 degree left, or 90 degrees right, and the crowds only get thicker.

19. One man's freedom fighter is another's terrorist.
Your claim to be a "moderate" damns you with publican framing. The "center" now appears to be just slightly right of Atilla the Hun.

15. Here's how the math works on TV, but mind you they're catching on...
I've attended several protests in NYC & DC where the crowds were definately underestimated for what was actually there. And as usually, the small contingency of counter-protesters are usually over exagerated.

Example: For the "March for Choice in April of 2004, the press estimated about 250,000 people gathered in DC. THis is an aerial view of the March for Choice - you tell me there's only 250,000 folks there. What you can't see hidden by the trees is even more people pouring into the main staging area. It was so overcrowded that I couldn't even get cell phone reception from the major overload of folks using their cell phones

And yet, the estimated the anti-choice protesters to be about 2000. Unless these folks were stashed away in some hidden corner or they counted all the pro-choice folks surrounding them, there was probably about 200 tops.

So my handy calculation - whatever the press says for the progressive crowd - multiply by 4. There had to be over a million people at that march in DC. And whatever they say for the conservative anti-rally: remove a "0" from the end of it. About 200 folks were doing a counter rally.

But they're catching on now. Instead of giving real numbers they'll do hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands. Crap like that

in attendance.

Believe me, there was way more than 250,000

23. Would you like to discuss the subject of this thread
or are you going to the Republican Deflection Dance for us?

This is about the demonstration in Lebanon, not an old picture of the reflecting pool. Look at a FULL pic of the Lebanon protest and tell me it's 7,500 Hezbollah and their grannies again. Don't forget to bring your ruler.

25. The estimation of the media is often very flawed...
I was at the Promise Keepers march in 98 and it was estimated at a half million. Park Police told me that there had to be at least 1.5 million. He told me his math on that but I forgot how they came up with the figure.

30. Those of us who were examining such consequences were accused of,...
,...being somehow AGAINST Syrian withdrawal and AGAINST the self-determination of the Lebanese people.

I am so sick of being persecuted/labelled/accused when being thoughtful/rational/contemplative about REALITY!!!

People who seem determined to present any situation as black/white, us/them, for/against and bi-polar are automatically suspect to me.

31. I know what you mean
The most likely short term result of the quick withdrawal of Syrian forces from Lebanon appears to be civil war....which is what was happening there BEFORE the Syrian troops were deployed.

More chaos in the Middle East.....good for the U.S. military budget I suppose.
