George W. Bush has recently asked Congress for another $80 billion for war and destruction in the form of an emergency supplemental request. This request is on top of the $2.5 trillion budget he proposed to Congress a few weeks ago, a budget that dramatically slashes domestic social programs and increases military spending. The new supplemental request will add $80 billion to the more than $151 billion already appropriated for the Iraq War. This week the House Appropriations Committee will vote on this request.
We need to send a clear message to Congress that no more money should go toward waging war in Iraq. Instead, the U.S. must end the occupation, bring our troops home, and support Iraqi sovereignty. It is time for us to demand the Administration and Congress stop perpetuating the cycle of violence in Iraq, stop sending so many soldiers and civilians to their graves, and stop diverting precious resources that could be used to rebuild Iraq and fund critical domestic needs.
No more taxpayer's money for Iraq. It was wrong to go in, it is wrong to stay in!
