16. Durbin gave some amazing speeches today in Senate re: SS...& Bankruptcy
It was on CSPAN-2. If you missed it, they'll probably re-run later.

Durbin also brought up the need for investigations into Halliburton's spending 'irregularities.'

12. For some crazy assed reason..........I've been thinking of him for like
several months now. He may not be glamorous in that "political" way (you know, politcal huckster)but this is a face America could trust. He's everyman. He seems dead honest (or does a damn good job of selling that image). He's not hype. He can say something in a way that common people can understand. I kept thinking----maybe, Durbin should be the Dem candidate in '08 and get away from these people who carry a barn full of old manure around with them. Any thoughts????

29. I don't think that guy has voted with the Dems once...
...in the 109th Congress so far. Every single Republican vote has been unanimous (cept for Specter voting for one amendment in the class action bill.)

I can't understand how they can keep their caucus together while we have 5-10 Democrats voting for every piece of Republican trash that gets proposed.

15. Dick Durbin is an IDIOT AND STUPID: He REJECTED intelligence
He was sent emails with information that could lead to prosecutions, indictments and IMPEACHMENT and he told the emailer to quit sending him emails because of the volume. THAT'S THE STUPIDEST THING A SENATOR CAN DO. THE DEMOCRATS ARE DYING FOR INTELLIGENCE.

THE PERSON EMAILING HIM WAS GIVING HIM EVIDENCE. IF SENATOR KERRY, SENATOR EDWARDS, OR JOHN CONYERS HEARS ABOUT THIS, THEY WOULD HAVE HIM BURIED ALIVE IMMEDIATELY.

He' sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid for rejecting information about investigations and impeachment.

I'm NOT voting for him because of that incident.

35. I e-mail Durbin regularly.
I call his office, and write as well.

I always get a wonderful replies to my e-mails, whether or not he and I agree on the issue in question. (We seldom disagree).

I have a great senator. And just what sort of intelligence are you talking about? You don't sound like you have anything.

Go ahead and give the stuff to Kerry, Conyers and Edwards. Let's see the burying alive.

The GOP will be going all out to defeat him. They hate independent thought and honesty more than anything.

He was one of the two senators to vote NAY ont he IWR. They can throw all they want at him but they wouldn't stand a chance in hell.

23. The illinois gop is in a shambles right now...
They got their asses handed to them by Obama courtesy of the Jack Ryan/Keyes candidacy shamozzle, they are on the back-foot against Gov Blago who has amassed a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE campaign budget, and there is no-one "electable" remotely interested in getting their asses kicked in 2006...

24. He wasn't seen as a Dem Leader then, they are all on the hit list now.
I don't see any one in sight right now, however. I just think that we can't take anything for granted just because of the current trend. These things ebb and flow. I do know the NRA/IRA will contribute to defeat him if a viable candidate is found.

26. Durbin is a good guy
He was almost named minority leader (although props to Reid for doing a bang up job so far), he's been working his way up the senate chain for awhile now, and a far as I can tell a high quality guy, I just wonder if he might be doomed to the shadows of the other Senator from Illnois...

In the end I might have to pick Feingold just because he's from a good swing state because they would both make awesome candidates.

34. I'd have to pick Feingold
Just because as a Muslim his sole vote against the Patriot Act made me so proud. I understand why Durbin, Kennedy, and others voted for it, and I've long forgiven them but that vote made me so proud of him.

Plus hes my Senator, and you gotta go with your own before others.

32. Durbin is a down stater. He is very popular, tough, and independent.
The GOP though a ton of crap at him 2002 and he won 62% of the vote.
