The Jeff Gannon story on the Today Show (2/17/05)
7:13

Katie: "there is a scandal brewing in the West Wing of the White House"

Tom Costello reports that Jeff Gannon had been a regular in the press room for 2 years.

Gannon reported for Talonnews.com which is connected to a Texas political operation GOPUSA

-Clips of Gannon asking questions

"the White House now admits it knew his name"

Reported that Gannon was turned down repeatedly for Congressional press pass

Kelly McBride (Poynter School of Journalism)~"this clearly was not journalism"

or was it?

McLellan's quote about many people being in that room many expressing opinions from print journalism to talk radio

Left leaning bloggers have uncovered that Gannon was linked to pornographic gay websites that may be escort services

"Gannon has resigned from Talon news leaving the public with a strange tale of an assumed identity, politics, the new world of internet porn, and agenda journalism"

Katie:"Okay...it's 7:15 now here is Matt"

3. they probably are are just testing what dissing the presidents men will do
if it goes over without outrage, knasning of teeth and hair pulling we may hear some more about it..

lame duck scandals are traditionally major fodder for the unMedia and there is SOooo much to scandalize about this wet brain alcoholic moron president. and they are starting to lose out on some JUICY stuff

i see a cartoon developing .. Carl Rove dressed as a little Dutch boy with his finger in a Dyke with trickles of water spilling over the top with titles written in them like.. looting of SSI, Bu$h lied 1,500 soldiers died, Tax cuts for the rich/higher taxes for the poor, drug program giveaway for the Pharmaceutical companies.. Corporate Fascism, etc etc

25. Now there's an image!
Rove...with his finger in a Dyke

What if Rove is really a drag dyke? You heard it here first. (Excuse my morning pre-coffee silliness.)

31. OK, now I've had my coffee and can think more clearly
It's not that hard, and is kind of fun, to imagine Rove in a little Dutch schoolboy uniform, bottoming to everyone's favorite hot White House military stud top. :spank: Please, Sir JeffJames, may I have another. :spank:

More seriously and completely speculatively, that would explain why GOPravda is so terrified of this story. Normally we might expect them to sweep it under the rug with a joke and a titter, and pretend that they covered the story for all that it really was. But if Rove is involved and the whole White House press corps knows it, that would explain their terror. No one wants to risk the wrath of Attila the Rove.

4. You see, the scandal is all about Jeff...
The White House was just trying to open up the press corp to include a wider variety of views...

Innocent as new born babes...

5. The problem is abuse of power. The Bush Admin has the power to decide
who gets into White House briefings and abused that power by applying a different standard to let in a ringer.

Gannon/Guckert was free to do "advocacy journalism" on his own website, but shouldn't have been let into White House press briefings under one standard whem a liberal who just has a website couldn't have gotten in.

6. Expressing views in a leadup to a CRITICAL question about
a president is journalism.

Expressing views in a leadup to a SOFTBALL question about a president is phoniness.

9. "left leaning bloggers"
with the help of alternative media have forced the Today Show to mention the scandal. MSM should all be ashamed but they don't really see it as their jobs anymore to investigate and report. The WH press corps hasn't been up in arms that a prostitute with ties to the GOP has been given the same stature as themselves, with their spokesperson saying that he didn't see that anything needed to be changed as far as credentialling reporters.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3126732&mesg_id=3126732

Soon the TV talking heads and those who simply print press releases will be accepted only as the entertainment/PR hacks that they are and the alternative media will emerge as the new Fourth Estate.

12. Bless You Jon Stewart
Because of last night's Daily Show, they are forced to talk about it. And he's not done yet, I bet. Personally I will make sure everyone I know watches the repeat of last night's show at 7:00 tonight.

Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 10:14 AM by rocknation
The mention of the GOPUSA connection is a pleasant surprise. But the bad news is, they didn't say that the GOPUSA connection should have disqualified Talon, even if it had been in business for more than two days. That, and their not mentioning the Plame connection.

27. Wrong! Talon News is irrelevant! Gannon was IN month before
AmericaBlog has video clips from CSPAN that PROVE he was in the Whitehorse before any Talon news came around! This thing is very fishy.

30. Was Guckert being paid to be in the WH press room?
Seems to me if he was being paid for his
"services" that probably extended to the
whoring he did for the WH and Republicans...
cash under the table at Christmas?

This thing is larger than it looks and
I'm not talking about Mr. G's G spot.
