We are the MjSM (majorstream media)!! It's up to us.
We will take the news, the truth, and facts to the streets of red-state America. Whether they like it or not, they are going to have hear and see the truth whether they accept it or not.

If the Republicians can use their money machine to fire off a million fake letters to the editors and to the Congress, we can use our "time" to meet them head on with blogger blitzes, home-made fact sheets, e-mails to the MSM, and a relentless barrage of mail, calls, and e-mails to the Republicans in Congress. It's not enough to keep pushing our Dems in congreess. We need to push the opposition.

1. Correct. We must be the media. Start with this story!
Do not let this story disappear- write to the media- send this everywhere. Someone posted this yesterday but it's worth repeating because MSM has already buried it. The NY Times ran it yesterday and Truthout.org distributed it.

'01 Memo to Rice Warned of Qaeda and Offered Plan
By Scott Shane, e New York Times

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/021205A.shtml

Washington - A strategy document outlining proposals for eliminating the threat from Al Qaeda, given to Condoleezza Rice as she assumed the post of national security adviser in January 2001, warned that the terror network had cells in the United States and 40 other countries and sought unconventional weapons, according to a declassified version of the document.

Here's the take from the UK:

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=609895

"Federal officials were repeatedly warned in the months before the 11 September 2001 terror attacks that Osama bin Laden and al-Qa'ida were planning aircraft hijackings and suicide attacks, according to a new report that the Bush administration has been suppressing."

- Snip -

"Kristin Bretweiser, whose husband was killed in the World Trade Centre, said yesterday the newly released details undermined testimony from Condoleezza Rice, the former national security adviser, who told the commission that information about al-Qa'ida's threats seen by the administration was "historical in nature".
She told The Independent: "There were 52 threats that were mentioned. These were present threats - they were not historical"

"But the details, first obtained by The New York Times, are the strongest evidence yet of the widespread warnings and officials' failure to take action. They also support claims by whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI translator, who said she saw evidence that showed officials were aware of the al-Qa'ida threat before 9/11. "

--------------------------------------
This information was supressed until now-- WHY? The Bush administration IGNORED their advisors and ignored 52 warnings- WHY? The public was never advised- WHY?

Furthermore, didn't Ms. Rice say during the 911 hearings and then again during her recent Sec. of State testimony that she had not been warned specifically and there some talk about the 911 attacks being a "failure of imagination"? This was no act due to a lack of imagination - they were warned.

The story continues...

Clarke Warned Rice on Al Qaeda on January 25, 2001

Read the transcript of Richard Clarke's memo to Condoleezza Rice at truthout.org (or there's a link to the orignal document).

INFORMATION: MEMORANDUM FOR CONDOLEEZZA RICE
FROM: RICHARD A. CLARKE
SUBJECT: Presidential Policy Initiative/Review --
The Al-Qida Network

"We urgently need such a Principals level review on the al Qida network. Just some Terrorist Group? As we noted in our briefings for you, al Qida is not some narrow, little terrorist issue that needs to be included in broader regional policy. Rather, several of our regional policies need to address centrally the transnational challenge to the US and our interests posed by the al Qida network."

BE THE MEDIA! Demand an explanation into what happened and why we were lied to.

2. I couldn't agree more!! We need to get organized.
DU seems like the perfect place to brainstorm ideas, organize e-mail barrages, etc. Like you say, it will require time and commitment, but I really think that an organized effort would produce results.

3. Who has a copy of the journalist's e-mail address?
Someone posted that some time ago. I have the usual suspects list but the list posted sometime ago had a lot of media folks from all kinds of media outlets.

Please post if you have it. We could all use that now to get started on our MjSM work.

5. Here you go
Here's the list. It can be found in the "Activism & Events" part of the DU Issue forum.

A good way to influence national issues is to help the groups that are out there doing the fighting. There's a DUer who takes the time to post all the petitions out there from these groups. This is her most recent post:

Signing the ones you agree with and forwarding them to your friends is one concrete step you can take. Organization is critical: Millions of us adding our voice to support these efforts will help these groups get the attention of politicians.

It's a slow process, but that's what's needed to bring about real change.
