Is it all Bill Clinton's fault?
I was thinking about the 2000 election and how close the Democrats came to being in the White House and I wondered - is it Clinton's fault? Gore regarded him as toxic waste because of the Monica scandal - he had no part in that election to speak of. Did conservative America think the same thing? Vote the Democrats out, whoever they are, to restore some decency to the office? Sometimes I think if it wasn't for that horny, little episode in history, we would still have some clout. I must be feeling down - I normally don't dwell on the past. Must be the North Korea revelation . . . or the Medicare drug revelation . . . or Gannongate. And this is only year 5.

1. Wouldn't it be Gore's fault then? For not including him in the campaign.
Not Gore specifically, but his advisor's. This is how I've always looked at it. Another major misstep. :hi:

3. Yes
Christians were shocked and angered by Clinton's blowjob from Monica. They wanted him out more than ever. Thus, Bush said that Jesus was his savior and he got elected. Twice. For the same trick. I think Dems are going to have a hard time fighting that without looking like fundies themselves.

4. According to the Republicans
everything is Clinton's fault. Just listen to callers on Washington Journal any morning. No matter what the topic or question that has been asked they wind up the call blaming Clinton.

5. its not Clintons fault- not for those reasons at least.
his policies as much as his behavior have hurt the democrats. And the other democrats, rolling over so enthusiastically, hurt themselves as well.

We lost alot of working class people with Nafta and WTO.

Many greens went green after Clinton. (i did)

6. Gore did win the popular vote by 550,000 votes and Fl was
won if an honest recount had been done. So Gore did win the 2000 election. In the end, it might have been a mistake for Gore not to utilize Clinton more in certain states while he (Gore) concentrated on other states.

9. The RW plotters have been at work since Reagan was in office.
They were at work on Clinton from the day after he was first elected.
They probably would have managed to steal the election from whoever ran in 2000. One can never tell.
Perhaps Gore really shocked them by running better than anyone expected.
If Kerry had run as good as Gore did, he would have won.

12. nepotism
We have never had several members of the family as power brokers, we had the Kennedys but they were not ex-president/former head of CIA, former chair of RNC, presidential candidate and governor, the dirty tricks started right then at that time. I think that it's time we did away with the electoral college and having the
outcome dependent on the entire nation not just 1 or 2 states. And I also think that there should be some limitations on nepotism.

14. Yeah, it seems as if a blow job from a CONSENTING adult FEMALE
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 09:02 PM by bush_is_wacko
is a no,no! Sad thing is I've NEVER been involved in a conversation with a MAN that would admit to thinking that way. If this is true you would have to believe that religious WOMEN voted bush in office and that is simply IMPOSSIBLE to believe and even harder to find evidence to support (BTW, I fit both those categories). The elections were BOTH stolen! Gore was the people's choice in 2000 and Kerry was the peoples choice in 2004. To believe otherwise is DELUSIONAL!

17. It is certainly not delusional to believe that because of..........
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 10:07 PM by OneMoreDemocrat
Clinton's extra-marital activities Bush got close enough vote-wise to steal the election in 2000.

Had Clinton kept himself in his pants, Gore would have won a clear and convincing majority of the electorate, large enough that the Republican electoral shenanigans in Florida and elsewhere wouldn't have made any difference.

Additionally, I don't think that the problem was that he got a blowjob from a consenting adult female, but that he got the said blowjob from said female while he was married and then lied about it.

20. Yep, you are right., but understanding WHY people of a certain generation
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 10:58 AM by bush_is_wacko
are vulnerable to rhetoric like this is important.

I was a young adult in the eighties and my generation was, without a doubt, the most self-indulgent generation ever to hit this planet. Many of our parent's don't realize what really went on in our generation because even then we KNEW we were self-indulgent and we have kept our behavior from them.

The current crop of churches and the Republican party are using our self-indulgence against us. The sixties had nothing on my generation of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll!

The fact that these men and women are now raising children of their own has created a GUILT society that is easy pray for cult-like ideas.

The churches prey on the "forgiveness" of the sins of a generation that "lived in sin" indulged in drugs by the fistful and nose-full, created multitudes of unwanted, unplanned, and aborted children because of their drug induced self-indulgences...I really could go on and on, but the basic truth is my generation feels guilty that THEY lived recklessly and they think they need to be "forgiven."

What my generation truly needs is to learn how to forgive themselves and not take their behavior out on others.

Security moms IMO were probably some of the MOST self indulgent of my generation. I knew two women back then with a grand total of eight abortions between them who are now what they call security moms. They had a VERY difficult time having children and they beleive it was God's punisment for their sins. They ARE pitiful creatures and they are raising children that are AFRAID of everything! It is VERY sad. I am unable to be in the same room with them for more than an hour. and have, in fact lost touch with one of them completely because the last itme I saw her she was convinced the world was coming to an end and she was "preparing" for her families "rapture." this was in 2000!

It is sickening that our churches have learned how to USE guilt on the masses.

BTW, the fact that Clinton was married and his "lie" is EXACTLY what I would expect from ANY president. He didn't want his constituents left with THAT image burnt in their minds. His "lie" was really not very important in the scheme of things. It did not effect his ability to govern a country. I just served to remind a generation of their OWN self-indulgent behavior. They were punishing themselves every bit as much as they were punishing him.

My generation has a whole lot of skeletons in their closets and the churches have figured out how to use our collective guilt against us!

16. American Dynasty by Kevin Phillips
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 09:54 PM by Donna Zen
Al Gore won the election 2000 even though he chose to avoid Clinton in places like Ohio where it would have been a huge plus.

I studied that election very seriously because at time I was working with a group that was all over the spread sheets etc. Somehow I became blinded to the political part of the equation.

Kevin Phillips layed out the whole sorry tale of Florida. While the book is a condemnation of the bushes, the chapter on Florida really describes how inept Gore was about the last battle. Phillips is not a swill thrower, he gives an accurate account of: this is what should have been done; this is what the Gore team did. Only after reading Phillips did I realize just how much Gore contributed to his own defeat.

Sorry. I still like Al Gore because I think he is a great person, and hopefully he's learned from Florida, but there is a reserve in Gore that hesitates 'til all is lost.

18. No way. Most Americans forgave Clinton for his little flings
When the dust settled, most people didn't give a rat's ass that he lied about getting head. What concerned them more was that times were good. The deficit was gone, the economy was rolling, and we weren't killing and getting killed for oil. Our current problems have nothing to do with Clinton's escapades. They have everything to do with a criminal Bush regime and with a horrific Democratic campaign in 2004.

19. I was a lot younger when the Clinton/Monica
thing happened but Clinton is human and made a mistake. He did apologize for lying and I was disappointed with that, but he did so much good while he was in the House to make up for it. :) Has anybody seen the movie "The Hunting of the President" or read the book? It talks about how people were after Clinton since he was governor and it really began when he first took oath in 1992.
