Personally, I find it quite uncanny about the timing of the smear job
aimed at Reid this week and the busting out of the Gannon liar story ...I don't believe it is a coincidence and they repukes must have known it was coming so they slammed Reid ...remember that Reid, Lauttenberg and Kennedy had called for all info on white house paid media whores to be brought out in the open just a few weeks ago??? Uh-huh, this attack on Reid this week was not about him being an obstructionist, it was to divert attention away from what some high powered folks found out about the liars again ...

1. No way..they didn't even see this one coming
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 01:55 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
were it not for the fact that Gannon/Guckert chided people into outing him it would not have happened

3. I don't think they saw it coming either.
Nobody outside of the White House (that we know of) knew who Jeff Gannon/Jwhatever Guckert was two days ago, let alone a week ago. It would be impossible for the Republicans to predict this scandal.

Even if they did, trying to counteract it by giving one Senator a rather timid-sounding title is really, really weak.

4. I am a little suspicious
about the timing of the latest 9-11 report release. There are freepers all over the boards. And the Gannon story is so over the top, so ridiculous as to be of (so far) little real damage to Bush.

I don't think it's a plant, but I wouldn't dismiss the idea outright.

5. Rove is a genius or, a really good gambler.
No matter how Gannon/whoever pans out, it works for him. Gannon can be a RW martyr, a lure, a fall guy, a distraction. And it's all good.

Unless we keep pushing. On another (one of the million) threads, I posted that in two clicks, you can go from Talon to MensNewsDaily to Poker Babes. Haven't quite digested that yet.

7. And in this thread, speculation on Gannon to Rove To Nixon

connection. Of course, we don't have proof of a Rove/Gannon connection. That's the big issue/scandal, but I think it's instructive that the connection between the Nixon dirty tricks and the Jeff Gannon behavior seems so plausible:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3091072

Nixon and his cronies had a little mixed bag of dirty-tricksters, planted stories, and double-crossers and some of that eventually came to light. Back when real journalists would follow a lead on a story, anyway.

At the time, these types like 'Jeff Gannon' were part of group of people called Nixon's "rat fuckers."

I hope a whole nest of these modern-day rat fuckers is exposed--and that Rove and his ilk were so sure that no one would dare call them on their tactics that they didn't bother to cover their tracks properly.

A dirty trail of rat shit that leads right to the White House.

--------------
For more on Rove's direct connection to Nixon's ratfuckers:

"At 21, Rove dropped out of college and into politics, and became an early protégé of convicted Watergate player Don Segretti – the political operative who invented the term “ratfucking” in the first place. In that same tradition, Rove has been linked to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, attacks on John McCain’s mental health, and, back in Texas, the whispering that Democratic Governor Ann Richards was a lesbian. Rove remains, for many, a prime suspect in the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame, and even Republicans tend to reinforce his image as Bush’s Dark Lord. “He dominates a campaign,” Republican strategist David Weeks told The Washington Post. “Nothing ever happens that he’s not aware of.”"

8. Yes, he's very much in the tradition. Second generation
as you point out, I didn't know that.

Two hotspots sort of stand out for me. The guys working the Cuban invasion that somehow ended up embroiled in the Kennedy hit and Nixon's gang. At least, in my lifetime, two moments when people like Gannon palmed the White House. Shades of Dave Ferrie.

6. I think you're on to something.
Gannon's bona fides were questioned around the web for a week or so, at least, prior to the Reid smear. Why not go after Reid to divert attention. They would have known Gannon's legitimacy was in question and that it was a matter of a short time until the house of cards started falling. This was a pretty weak response since Reid tore them up.

If the middle pictures from this post are Rick Gannon, Katie Bar the Door! we've got one of the very strangest scandals ever, in any country. That's a big if. A rough analogy is Arnold's popularity in the country (save CA). By a two to one margin, voters DO NOT want him to run for president. Why, because they see him as "sexually weird." If this is Gannon, imagine how "weird" they'll think Bush is for that look (pic 2) and the caress (pic 3). Creepy stuff.

While your theory makes sense, mine is more fun. I've been touting Reid (correctly so I believe) as a real life tough guy with character and integrity. When this thing broke the day after they smeared Reid, for a brief moment I said to myself, "Lord, these people shouldn't mess with Reid. Look what he did!" Put me to bed, immediately!

9. They smeared Reid because he gave a great rebuttal to the SOTU speech.
They smeared Reid because he gave a great rebuttal to the SOTU speech. They smeared him because he is good at what he does. He is a threat!

10. the neocon mafia don't take care of buisness
they just play smear games and propaganda poker to hide the fact that they are screwwing this country and the world.
They just postponed the Micheal Jackson case till they can use it for a diversion as more and more people in America get wize to thier little mandate with destiny.

11. 9/11 Memoes, NK nukes, .. overdump investigation fodder!
Keep investigative journalists eyes glued to one of their own, one of their competition that needs to be outed. Outed as a bad journalist that is, showing themselves as better and needed.

No NK nuke history.

No memo reading. Just quantities of categories.

...while CONdoleza struts, Joe Blow will either see too much detail in too many stories or one story or another will be dropped not to confuse and lose listeners.
