Watch out - imminent RNC attacks on Dean are coming
I'm sure that, as soon as he is offically elected head of the DNC, or shortly before, the RNC will launch a viscous slime-ball attack on him. Mailings. Billboards. Talking points. Echo chamber.

Let's pre-empt it. Use the media blaster to ask the media, "so when's the RNC Dean memo expected?"

1. I've heard the Swifties are planning to reveal that his ancestors
harboured Tories back in the 18th century. How unpatriotic!

2. Imminent? they have arrived. I'm waiting to see if the dems fight back.
sadly, so far it appears that dean is on his own--the DNC is no doubt waiting until the next swift...er GOP attack "backfires" in the media.

5. Who the fuck cares what the RNC thinks about Dean
seriously, what do they matter in Dem politics? The best thing they can provide for us is a gauge of how good a canidate is by the veracity of their attacks against him/her.

6. Dean has been marked for death by the MSM
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 02:48 AM by Azathoth
Its not the RNC so much, its the media itself. I'm not a huge Dean supporter (voted for Clark in the primaries), but even I was appalled at the spitefulness of the mainstream media when they descended on Dean like a pack of rabid jackals and assassinated his campaign. Dean's biggest obstacle is not the RNC; the RNC would bitch and moan and throw mud and slime-ball attacks if Jesus Christ himself were elected DNC chairman. Dean's biggest problem is that the media hates him, and will not miss an opportunity to scrutinize his every move and skewer him whenever they can.

8. That's why he won the chairmanship
But the point is that the media seems to have a particular hatred for Dean, and this encourages a mainstream dislike for him. Having a party chairman who is both very high profile and an object of ridicule in the media is not a good thing. From here on, when Dean slips up and says something stupid, the media will descend on him, but instead of it being "Dean said", its going to be "the Democratic Chairman said" and so forth. The media's habit of portraying Dean in the worst light possible is going to extend (with a little help from the RNC of course) to portraying the Democratic party in the worst light possible. Dean is talking about improving the Democratic party's image, but his own image has been badly damaged by the media. He's going to have to work around that.

10. Get this - WE DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT THE MSM LIKES
ABOUT DEAN.
The MSM has been anti democratic party since b**sh slimmed into office and they have slamming the democratic party ever since. The thing that makes the MSM effective is that democrats in general do not howl at them in unison as the reThugs do. We have some democrats who sound more or less like the media themselves when it comes to slamming other democrats that attempt to stand up for what the party traditionally had supported. When are we going to get a spine to fight back as a group instead of wanting to please the MSM and the moderates and the independents and etc, etc? I expect the reThugs will attempt to sow dissension among the democrats and the MSM will, of course, howl about any Dean's misstep, but what we let them get away with is the determinant of how effective we will fight back under Dean's leadership. And Dean cannot do it alone.

11. of course they will
it's their M.O.

first they spread a little cash around to the Payola-Pundits to pooh-pooh and pish-pish Dean

then they send out attack-lap-dogs to Faux/CNN with scripts in hand

next we get the echo-chamber-chorus all singing the same tune on the Sunday blather-shows

finally there will be the mutual butt-kissing and boot-licking "interviews" during the evening spews while slicing and dicing Dean

and what will the dems do? they will try to talk about issues. but if one dem makes a disparaging remark about a repug -- ohhhhh boy that will be the headlines from here to the moon
