My response to the MSNBC Poll on the general who stated it is
fun to shoot people.

The realities of war are not that it is fun to shoot people. This is a very poor reflection of a supposedly intelligent man. The reality of war is that it is a very horrible but necessary action to be taken sometimes to defend yourself and I believe most veterans will tell you shooting another human being is not fun.

3. Went too far but will get rewarded for it by bu$h regime.

He will probably be promoted to Chairman of the joint chiefs.
Rice lied about WMD and drove the US into attack Iraq became Secretary of State.
Gonzales crafted the abuse at Abu Grab and became Attorney General
It would only be normal for the Bush admin to promote this guy to Chairman of Joint Chiefs.

He went too far 58%
He was only reflecting the realities of war 42% :wtf:

4. A pathetic attempt at bravado by an aging man ...
who hasn't fired a bullet in anger in decades, if ever. Trying to impress the execs and the wives. Pathetic.

5. He could've been more tactful but
it cetinly didn't bother me. I've got 3 sons that are SEALS and this attitude isn't uncommon. It was announced yesterday that he won't be punished for his rmarks and I agree with that. He needs to be careful what he says and where he says it.

8. Excuse me but are you saying that your 3 sons
who are SEALS think it is FUN to shoot people? Is this their attitude?
If it is I certainly wouldn't be proud to publicize it.

How about hanging them? Or lynching them? Or torturing them?

What about gangsters out in the streets. Is it ok for them to have this attitude also?

10. No, I'm not saying that
I'm saying it's a prevalent attitude among many military personnel. I've heard them and their fellow SEAL's doing the Macho fighting boy routine though.

in their military career. It wouldn't bother them.

15. As a rule I try to support our troops, even those who seem to believe that
they are actually in Iraq to keep America secure. But, in this case, I have to tell you that I find your son's attitudes to be very sick and I don't see how they can be productive citizens when they return to the states (as I pray that they do - healthy, whole and hearty.)

But I would not want to live near them or have my children or even my dog near anyone who thinks it is fun to shoot people.

It really sounds mentally imbalanced and if these young men were NOT this way before this war, then you have every reason to hate George Bush.

12. 'fun'?
:wow:

fun (fn)

NOUN:

A source of enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure.
Enjoyment; amusement: have fun at the beach.
Playful, often noisy, activity.

Is there some other meaning that you think your SEALS have for that word? Are we misunderstanding something here? Is it really enjoyable and amusing to take the life of another human being, even in a time of war?

If this definition of fun is not being misinterpreted, I'd say that the way the military programs its recruits is savage, sickening, inhumane, un-american, immoral, un-christian, de-humanizing, sick, deranged, and quite likely to backfire on this country and those who kill others thinking that its not simply a "necessary evil" or "something they must do, but would prefer not to".

13. Sounds like testosterone poisoning to me
both with the SEAL boys and the general. I'm all for having a tough military but their militancy must be tempered with wisdom. I will bet, though, that our soldiers who have been horribly wounded and maimed for life as a result of this war would have a different attitude.

14. Good Military Leaders Do Not Consider War Or Shooting Others
as fun.

All I can say & I am speaking as a veteran the professional soldiers & my commanders never considered it "fun" to shoot the enemy. If you have read history even the greats, Patton, Eisenhower, Rommel, all those were great historians and all of them respected the enemy and in the highest regard. At the same time they knew who the enemy was and did everything in their power to defeat them in the most humane way they could. Not with disrespect but with dignity. They realized killing was part of war but never fun. Only some idiot or someone without any morals would consider it fun to shoot another soldier or human being.

17. I questioned the response of the Marine Corps.
They (the Marine Corps. collectively via some spokesperson) implied that they regretted his candor but not his ideology. I asked what was next--wouldn't it be "fun" to gas people? Let's round them up and offer them a much needed shower. They'll expect water to come out of the shower heads...you know the drill.

18. This is real sad.
If a killer was interviewed on TV and he/she said that it was fun killing people most people on this planet would be appaled. When a General says it people in Amerika give excuses for him. It is no wonder that atrocities occur and torture is wide spread.
