Shocking! Norm Coleman may vote NO on Chertoff
He's trying to show he's not the puppet that everybody knows he is.

Coleman may vote against Chertoff over funding snag
Fred Frommer, Associated Press
February 3, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Norm Coleman said Wednesday he was not willing to support Homeland Security nominee Michael Chertoff because of security funding cuts to the Twin Cities, signaling a rare public breach with the Bush administration.

"I'm not prepared to cast a vote for him,'' Coleman told The Associated Press after Chertoff's confirmation hearing. "This has nothing to do with him. I am angry with the stupidity of the Department of Homeland Security somehow separating Minneapolis and St. Paul in funding for urban security grants.''

At issue is a reallocation of national homeland security funds announced late last year, in which Minneapolis and Hennepin County are getting $5.7 million. That's down from the $19.5 million the previous year for the larger Twin Cities area, including the city of St. Paul and Ramsey and Dakota Counties.

3. Now THAT sounds like "petty bickering" to me
We talk about things like torture and going to war on false pretenses and lying to congress and lying to the public and intelligence failures and negligent handling of death row appeals... and the repugs call it "petty partisan politics."

But then some Repug political hack who never spoke-up on things like torture and a fraudulent war... all of a sudden he opens his mouth to whine that he didn't get enough MONEY?

Now, I may be wrong, but THAT is what I call petty bickering.

4. looking after local constituents
that's the first rule of electoral politics. Local interests come first if you want to stay in office.

6. this obviously defies partisanship
He is voting against Bush because of local interests. I don't see anything remotely surprising in this.

7. He probably crawled into Frist's office and whined a case about
voters.

Frist probably told him to hint that he might not, but then vote for Chertoff anyway, because stupid constituents will only remember that he said he might not and they'll win all ways.

It was only about two months ago that Normie said he wouldn't vote the Republican line then did. Frist says, now Normie, you're not going to get that seat if you don't say ......whatever. They even had him calling on Kofi A to resign, then Normie got caught in an undertow when the wave reversed, but came choking back. As for voting record -I think it's perfect - a perfect Frist record. Slap!
