I was thinking about the submarine full of Bush/Cheney supporters that rammed into all the Japanese school-aged kids.

But the past is past and I say let it rest. What bothers me more is the illegal diversion of funds from Afghanistan to Iraq. Why is that never talked about?

25. I never said I disagreed....
But everyone has a skeleton in his/her closet. They guy is a rich spoilt brat, and this is not atypical behavior. (Please don't accuse me of letting him of the hook.) What really bothers me most about this man is not his ideology or his "petty crimes" but more the fact that he has no value on human life. That started early in politics from his days as Governor.

But we need to come to a decision as to how we are going to do this, and I have no easy solution. Do we get down and dirty and start character assasinations, or communicate intelligently what we are about to try and win over the voters.

I don't think the awol story changed anyones mind.
The other side would argue, shrub got his {at least]
the minimum number of 'NG service points' for each of
the six years of his obligation, after which he was
honorably discharged from the service.

It was just a distraction, diverted attention away from
Kerry.
To an individual reporter, he/she wants a 'story',
but does that help the voters make an informed choice?
Most people did not know anything about Kerry,
before 2004, or something like , ya, he's the other Kerrey.

No.

I got my honorable discharge the honorable way. I don't like to see 'em handed out as party favors to rich kids.

27. Salon has a list of 34- "The Scandal Sheet"
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2005/01/18/scandal/index_np.html

Print it out, send it to Harry Reid, or just read it and weep. Here are 34 scandals from the first four years of George W. Bush's presidency -- every one of them worse than Whitewater.

1. Memogate: The Senate Computer Theft

The scandal: From 2001 to 2003, Republican staffers on the Senate Judiciary Committee illicitly accessed nearly 5,000 computer files containing confidential Democratic strategy memos about President Bush's judicial nominees. The GOP used the memos to shape their own plans and leaked some to the media.

The problem: The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act states it is illegal to obtain confidential information from a government computer.

The outcome: Unresolved. The Justice Department has assigned a prosecutor to the case. The staff member at the heart of the matter, Manuel Miranda, has attempted to brazen it out, filing suit in September 2004 against the DOJ to end the investigation. "A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich," Miranda complained. Some jokes just write themselves.........

Not exactly a scandal since NO ONE mentioned it at the time or since. I love it when the neo-cons accuse Clinton of ignoring terrorism before 9/11 when Bush clearly avoided the problem. He had a chance, after it was determined that al-Qaeda was behind the bombing, to send bin Laden a message and didn't. Might have even persuaded bin Laden to give the final go-ahead for 9/11.

Three times as costly as Whitewater.

And in addition, unlike Whitewater, there is some quite obvious fraud there.

But of course, I am pretending again that I live in a Free Nation with such talk.

This is Imperial Amerika and we have as much chance of getting a conviction on any of his dozens of scandals for which the evidence is laying around, as the German Social Democrats had of indicting Hitler in 1933.

The EXACT same chance!

72. The Cipro heist--connected with the anthrax scare
I don't claim to know all that went into this, but what it looks like to me in retrospect is:

Someone wanted to sell a WHOLE LOT of Cipro/stock. Scaring the hell out of everyone in the country--remember how people all over the country thought they might get anthrax by touching their mail?--sure got a lot of people to rush to be vaccinated. I believe that the anthrax scare was started in order to jack with the price of certain pharmaceuticals--and by extension, with the prices of the stock for said pharmaceuticals.

Insider trading is trading with knowledge which is not fairly disseminated to other traders. This, to me, looks like a twist on insider trading--instead of merely having knowledge that other traders don't have, these insider traders CREATED the crisis, and then made hay with it.

That is the shit.

It's treason. It's impeachable. It's got legs that go all the way through the Bush administration and the Iraq war and back again.

Essentially, Bush allowed 9/11 to happen to get the public sympathetic to attacking Iraq...with Halliburton's war profiteering ALL OVER IT.

83. The fishing trip before easter.
He was going to tape a show but cancelled it once the story leaked, opting instead for a photo-op of him attending Easter services and a visit to wounded troops.

Bush talks turkey back at the ranch
April 13, 2004

In the middle of a gruelling week in Iraq, the US President is fishing and talking to Ladies Home Journal, writes Joel Brinkley in Crawford, Texas.

President George Bush, emerging drawn and sombre from seclusion at his Texas ranch, acknowledged on Sunday morning that "it was a tough week last week" in Iraq.
...

White House communications director Dan Bartlett insisted that "most Americans will understand" that the President wanted to spend the Easter holiday with his family.

This is Mr Bush's 33rd visit to his ranch since he became President - all told he has spent almost eight months of his presidency here.
...

On Friday, as Americans worked to put a ceasefire in place in Iraq, Mr Bush fished in the bass pond on his ranch with Roland Martin, host of the cable TV show Fishing with Roland Martin.

Mr Bush "took the biggest one of the day" - a two-kilogram bass, Martin said. "The President was very relaxed. He didn't really talk about politics at all."

The White House said Mr Bush had to cancel another fishing trip scheduled for Saturday because of meetings with his advisers on Iraq. Martin said the President told him, "'I've been busy, all these crises.' "

85. When a member of the press yelled out a Ken Lay question
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 03:09 AM by msgadget
and he had a choice expletive about the press and their relations with their mothers:

Tubb prescribed the anti-depressants after a clearly-upset Bush stormed off stage on July 8, refusing to answer reporters' questions about his relationship with indicted Enron executive Kenneth J. Lay.

“Keep those motherfuckers away from me,” he screamed at an aide backstage. “If you can’t, I’ll find someone who can.”

Bush’s mental stability has become the topic of Washington whispers in recent months. Capitol Hill Blue first reported on June 4 about increasing concern among White House aides over the President’s wide mood swings and obscene outbursts.

86. All the Anti-Inaugural protests not covered, or minimalized at best by MSM
And NO coverage at all of the snowballs hitting Cheney's limo, and the fruit hitting Shrub's.

And those who watched OTHER THAN CSPAN, did NOT even see the limo's & Secret Service speeding up in that portion. It was edited out (due to time-delay) on CNN for sure.

Guess we'll just have to wait for Michael Moore's new movie, to see the actual footage!

90. * has not attended the funeral of a single U.S. soldier killed in Iraq.
The troops' Commander-in-Chief, who sent them into the face of danger in Iraq, just can't be bothered. And yet he feigns crocodile tears when he speaks about the fallen soldiers. His predecessors -- Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan and Carter -- all attended memorials or funerals for soldiers killed in action.

This thread is so right-on, it's making my blood-pressure absolutely boil. :grr:
