1. I'm sure some Repuke senators
got more votes than Bush, too. Probably doesn't make you feel better, though. :)

14. more votes
see my fishy 2004 election results in Baltimore, MD, its posted here in the election forum. it's not the voters its the machines, Kerry got less votes than Barbara Mikulski candidate for Dem senator in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, look at the results yourself, they're wacko, the machine I voted on default to Bush 5x and on the 6 time Kerry lit up and stayed lit. We're not traiters, its the rise of the machines!

2. actually Kerry carried at least some of those states and the candidates
lost others. Obama outpolled Kerry as did Boxer. In addition people like Castor, Bowles, and DeMints opponent did as well. The only winner of those where Kerry lost that I know of was Solizar.

10. probably just
bad mouthing Kerry because he is a Dem. People don't vote party line much. They go for "personality" which is ridiculous.

19. many people specifically WON'T vote party line
they like to mix their votes, either because they like to think of themselves as independent or because they think one party shouldn't be in control.

8. Could be, I have an insight from working the phones at the Dem office
in WI. The first one I got stunned me, because ideologically it makes no sense whatsoever, but I had lots of people tell me they were voting Bush for Pres and Feingold for Senator. I figured most of those were people that just chose the incumbent no matter what, a sad but true. So it isn't always an indicator of fraud, but if the Dem candidate was the challenger and it went Bush and the Dem Challenger that would be highly suspect.

11. Not really
Most Senate races for open seats are fairly competative even in states that are one party havens for the Presidential level.

12. just down the street from me
my neighbor had out kerry and benson signs, where benson was the rightwingnut closet-freeper a*hole governor of new hampshire, ex governor that is as he got pretty soundly trounced by the democrat lynch. I never could figure that out. I always was hoping to see the people outside so I could stop and just casually ask them how they could hold their political beliefs without their heads exploding, but I never did see them.

After about the second week or so of phone canvassing I realized that most people are irrational (duh) and that they make political decisions like they choose toothpaste.

13. oh and
Kerry won new hampshire, bush lost, both reps were rethuglicans and won easily and granny D got smacked down in the senate race. I suppose russert didn't mention that bush did worse than the local rethugs in nh, did he?

9. Just to clarify, Kerry did win WI and so did Russ Feingold but it would
have been possible that Bush could have carried WI with Feingold also holding onto his senate seat.

15. That just goes to show
possible fraud in my opinion, people that don't always vote were out in droves....why? That only happens when people are pissed. Maybe those votes that went to other Dems, but not Kerry, really were supposed to be for Kerry and somehow weren't counted that way...like in Ohio with the dots put over his circle and Bush's colored in....

17. See link -- I think Russert was saying 15 Dem Senators
that won election or re-election did better than Kerry did in their states. For example, here where I am in NY, Chuck Schumer won with 71% of the vote while Kerry got 58%. In Arkansas, a Dem Senator won re-election while Kerry lost the state, etc, etc.

This CNN link shows the Senate race results. You have to go back to main page to see Pres results by state:

20. Actually, that happened all over MN too
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 12:39 AM by DFLforever
in local elections.

Kerry got 72% of the vote in my precinct. Sounds good but my state rep, Entenza got 75%!

ALL the new DFL Reps elected to the MN House got more votes in their districts than Kerry did.

Kerry was not a strong candidate in this traditional sense.

We didn't have any statewide seats up in 2004 but if we had and they followed local patterns, Kerry would have been outpolled.

22. you can't compare the two since Senators are from those states
and they form a relationship with their constituency through time. they have a hometown advantage. crossover voting is common in these races. and local and state issues are often considered.

the national race is often seen as different and more partisan. people are more likely to vote party in national races.

Kerry was also an outsider and an unknown unlike the Senators in the various states.

Pennsylvania is an example of the opposite with Specter a Republican doing better than Bush.
