4. Well fer sure its the same kind of insurance policy Bush took out
to protect himself ! Just kidding. Edwards would make a great candidate, as would Gore, Kerry, and vice-versa or any combination of these three with Boxer as a vp candidate.

6. If it's Election Day and that's the ticket on the ballot --
-- that's one I could get behind, no problem.

7. Edwards-Minner, Edwards-Stabenow -- I like those combo's because
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 07:18 PM by AP
At the center of Minner's and Stabenow's political personae is an argument about class and opportunity.

In the same way that Gore reaffirmed the idea (for Clinton) that it was time to pass the baton of leadership to the next generation -- a generation with new ideas -- I think Edwards's running mate should be someone who reaffirms his central argument about how it's time to elect a president who represents the ideas of equality of opportuniy and class mobility and that it's important that we reward work with wealth rather than wealth with more wealth.

I know Boxer is a good liberal, but I don't know what her bigger set of values is all about or what it's based on.

For VP, I don't want a laundry list of votes on issues that I can check off. I want someone with a very clear persona -- one that not only explains decisions they made in the past, but one which will help me predict what they will do with issues with which they haven't yet been confronted.

If I know a politician lives and breathes the idea that, for example, work should be rewarded with wealth, I really don't need much more. I just need to know that that's a central part of their make-up as a politician.

I do like Boxer, but I don't yet know what she's made up of, except for some good speeches about and a great vote on a Foreign Policy issue this past week.

8. Boxer for President
Why Boxer for just VP? Why not President? What has Edwards got over her? She has served in Congress, both the House and the Senate much longer than Edwards ever did. Why settle for second fiddle. Boxer for President!

9. What Edwards has over her right now is a very clear persona and set...
...of values that address exaclty what is going wrong with America right now -- and they go way beyond just a no vote on Condi Rice's appointment as SoS.

I'm not saying that Boxer doesn't share the same values, but I am saying that right now she's got miles to go to catch up to the work Edwards has done explaining to the public what he believes.

10. I could never forgive the Kerry-Edwards ticket
for giving up in the face of obvious vote fraud and a stolen election. Kerry was the ring leader but Edwards didn't speak out either and so as far as I'm concerned I cannot support either in the future. Boxer has gone out on a limb for us. She is the only choice as far as I'm concerned.

11. Yes, many liberals would prefer to shoot themselves in the foot over one
single issue about which they know nothing regarding the circumstances (do you have any idea what might have gone into that decision making process?) and which has little impact on how most voters think.

Boxer has done one thing that everyone likes her for today. By the same measure ("what have you done lately for me on the one issue that has captured my imagination for the moment") people will no doubt be pissed at her over something else before 2008.

Obviously, what makes for a good candidate is something much bigger, and more important. It's the ability to articulate a big vision of progressive values and then start plugging in issues into that big vision, but not so that you're just making a laundry list of statistics.

Edwards did that in the primaries and what happened after Nov 2 doesn't change the fact that he did a great job of articulating what he stood for in a way too which many voters were very receptive. Boxer hasn't done that yet, despite her commendable actions in relation to a single vote this past week. It's just like foot-shooter to value the latter over the former.

19. Edwards did talk to Kerry, who headed the ticket
Think about it. (We sure have talked about it enough.)
1. Edwards did not want to concede. Tried to talk Kerry out of it.
2. Edwards got Kerry to move finally in Ohio, but Kery moved late and without force.

The lawyers did not look to Edwards, they looked to Kerry.

12. Edwards/Boxer: DEFINITELY
Sadly, our country is not ready to elect a woman for president. A woman on the top of the ticket will most certainly lose, but what an awesome way to open the door by running a woman for VP!

This is why we are so screwed if Hillary gets coronated. NO WAY will this country elect a woman, especially with a war going on. Chances are, we will still be in Iraq in three years when the primaries start.

13. If Edwards could carry Louisiana and Arkansas it would be one thing
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 09:22 PM by Hippo_Tron
The problem is that I'm not sure he can do that. I'm not sure that he could even carry his home state.

18. Edwards is smart, has new ideas and a real message
And that ought to be enough substance for anyone.
What is really hysterical is that, like similar attacks (maybe yours?) in previous Edwards threads, there is literally no substance to your post. It's got a subject line, sure, but nothing behind it.
Thanks for the laugh.

15. Can they beat B$$$/Rice?
What we might like isn't important as what the country will go for. Jeb and Condi will be the media favorite and already control the votes.

I like Boxer, and am proud she's my senator, but when making our choices for presidential nominees let's lay off the kool-aid please.

20. Sounds Wonderful!!
Only one thing... Do you really think Edwards would pick Boxer??? I find this idea to be most intriguing, but Is Boxer his kind of Gal???

Then of course, we need to think about LOCATION! California, what a state, but wouldn't someone from Texas be REALLY GREAT???

Can't think of ANYONE from there though!
