Did this administration use prostitutes to humiliate detainees?
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 08:20 PM by GreenPoet64
If this story is true, I am appalled at the idea that these "women interrogators" would just happen to be another few "bad apples."

Smearing "menstrual blood" (the article suggests it was red ink) on devoutly religious men sounds like a sophisticated plan to me--I can't imagine any woman doing such a thing without being instructed as to the religious significance of such a technique.

I'm writing every Senator, and representative asking each to please investigate. Please join me, as it sounds to me as if the women involved were being exploited. (Isn't prostitution illegal?)

On edit:

I found the other article--it states that prostitutes were brought in.

10. I'm appalled--I can't imagine an Christian not being disgusted
at the thought of our government hiring prostitutes as a torture technique. (Or training interrogators to perform sexually). This administration is sick sick sick.

4. I remember a truthout article months ago stating "Prostitutes . . .
were hired to humilate detainees." I will try to find a link.

This REALLY pisses me off. No wonder the world hates us.

5. There's the Bush Administration helping the economy again by
finding new work for prostitutes during a period (excuse the pun) that they might otherwise be unemployed.

6. Not prostitutes at all
From the sound of it, they were well-trained operatives.

9. Coercion, Manipulation, etc.
There's not really a whole lot of details, so you could be right, and it's entirely possible these were just local call girls who were brought in.

But from some of the things I've read over the past few months, I think some these "civilian contractors" were fairly well-trained, either ex-intelligence or trained by ex-intelligence. Learning how to compromise, coerce, persuade, or otherwise psychologically manipulate people is a fundamental skill taught to intelligence operatives. Using one's sexuality to maximum advantage is obviously a big part of that.

The interrogators were using these same skills, only to a different effect. Instead of using their sexuality to seduce potential informants/spies/leaks/etc, they were using it to assault the rigid religious beliefs of the prisoners. The menstrual blood was a particularly inspired touch, since menstruating women are considered unclean under Islamic doctrine. They are forbidden to even say prayers or hold a Quran.

The bottom line is, I think the women who were doing this knew exactly what they were doing and how to go about it. But then again, I'm extraordinarily cynical.

12. Either way, it's exploitation . . .
When a woman's job description involves a thong and a bra, fondling a man's genitals and touching her * she's being exploited. I don't care if she's trained by the CIA or if she's a local call girl. (She's being paid to perform acts of prostitution).

The point I'm making is that I'm sick of reading about these women who perform these things as if they are amazons who have been overly aggressive in their sadistic glee.

Let's be real. In light of this president's speech about bringing "Godly" freedom to the world, this needs to be investigated.

29. Nonsense
It is not necessarily exploitation when "a woman's job description involves a thong and a bra, fondling a man's genitals and touching her asterisk". If she freely choses to do something like that where is the exploitation?

I think you are still under Victorian notions of sexuality my friend ...

30. Ha! That's my point exactly . . .
I'm not the one with the Victorian morals--this administration is. If in order to torture detainees our government employed prostitutes, I think a few of my RW friends would be interested to know that.

You're right it's not necessarily exploitation--it depends on who was hired, and where, and under what conditions. I think there needs to be an investigation.

23. agreed completely.
also it's not likely that the women would be considered legally as prostitutes. If they were unemployed and offered positions with the government as civilian contractors they would be just that, civilian contractors. To call them prostitutes would be inaccurate. Well trained operatives, I doubt that the gov would allow just anyone to have a shot at the prisoners.

26. Hired to perform sex acts. Hmmm. I think
it doesn't matter whether or not they were hired as contractors, full-time part-time, long term or whatever.

As I said before, if their job description includes:

a) x-rated nudity
b) fondling male genitalia
c) fondling self

They are being hired as prostitutes.

31. Dependant
The tactics used to obtain information are just that "tactics". If a football player dances like a balarina into the end zone it doesn't make him a balarina or a private dancer... it does however make the game more interesting. If a state prison gaurd has to use physical force to stop a riot in California it doesn't make him a boxer. I don't see where you're coming from. Moral issues aside, it's the label I question.

32. Camp X-Ray, Guantanamo Bay. More like Camp X-rated.
"...But Jamal's most shocking disclosure centred on the use of vice girls to torment the most religiously devout detainees. Prisoners who had never seen an "unveiled" woman before would be forced to watch as the hookers touched their own naked bodies. The men would return distraught. One said an American girl had smeared menstrual blood across his face in an act of humiliation..."

Tell me that an enlisted soldier has a the authority and wherewithall to bring "vice girls" 1) onto a military base, 2) into a high security prison.

A few "bad apples", indeed.
