"You Will be Escorted to Bathroom and be told Don't look at Bush..."
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 02:04 PM by KoKo01
Performers in inaugural parade ordered by Secret Service not to look directly at Bush. Is he the leader of a free people or a Chinese emperor? (Credit to "Buzzflash" for the Title and Article)

Parade performers will have security escorts to the bathroom, and they've been ordered not to look directly at President Bush or make any sudden movements while passing the reviewing stand. "It's going to be very different from past inaugurals," said Contricia Sellers-Ford, spokeswoman for the U.S. Capitol Police, which is responsible for the Capitol and grounds. "A lot of the security differences will not be detected by the public - there will be a lot of behind the scenes implementation - but the public will definitely see more of a police presence."
-SNIP-

The Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region, which was created two years ago to bring coordination to the many disparate military units in the Washington area, will provide more than 4,000 troops to help.Washington, D.C., police chief Charles Ramsey has sent invitations to police departments across the country inviting them to send squads of officers to help with inauguration security. The federal government is paying for officers' hotels, meals and air travel. Several thousand officers are expected, Ramsey said. That includes squads from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Bradenton, Fla., Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C., the North Carolina state highway patrol, several law enforcement agencies in Texas and other parts of the country.

"This is the first post 9/11 (inauguration) so obviously there are some more security concerns this time than in past years," Ramsey said. The extra officers from around the country will free up Washington police officers so that they can form "mobile platoon civil disturbance units" to prevent protest demonstrations from getting out of hand, Ramsey said. Groups planning demonstrations during the inauguration festivities are already smarting from security restrictions. Anti-war protesters with the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition have complained that large sections of the parade route have been set aside for Bush's political contributors and supporters and will be closed to the general public.

Why can they not look at Bush? Why?

I'd like to hear the answer to that.

(All I can think of is that the Japanese people could not look at the Japanese emperor because he was descended from god.)

Welcome to DU. :hi:

Description, but no picture:

THIS animal was called the king of the serpents. In confirmation of his royalty, he was said to be endowed with a crest, or comb upon the head, constituting a crown. He was supposed to be produced from the egg of a cock hatched under toads or serpents. There were several species of this animal. One species burned up whatever they approached; a second were a kind of wandering Medusa’s heads, and their look caused an instant horror which was immediately followed by death...

1 The basilisks were called kings of serpents because all other serpents and snakes, behaving like good subjects, and wisely not wishing to be burned up or struck dead, fled the moment they heard the distant hiss of their king, although they might be in full feed upon the most delicious prey, leaving the sole enjoyment of the banquet to the royal monster.

2 The Roman naturalist Pliny thus describes him: “He does not impel his body, like other serpents, by a multiplied flexion, but advances lofty and upright. He kills the shrubs, not only by contact, but by breathing on them, and splits the rocks, such power of evil is there in him.”

53. I tried to find a picture of a hideous basilisk
or cockatrice (less emphasis on "trice" as you said), but couldn't find one ugly enough to suit the subject.

I'm glad you posted, because I really would hate to compare him to Medusa, who had once been beautiful, and had never been a vicious, evil person. I think I'll keep looking for a picture of a hideous basilisk.

Thanks again.

The Evil EYE!
Bush doesn't want any bad mojo, because Nancy Reagan read his horoscope, see, and Nostradamus predicted and Revelations says that "the son of man will come with fire...", see and Bush has a father who was also a president and that means he's the son of a man and the rupture is coming and he has to be prepared and its the six hundred and sixty sixth day since he lanced a boil on his bottom, see, and that felt like fire and so the tribulation is coming and if you look him in the eye you can see into his soul and you might then be ruptured with him and then when he stands at the side of the heavenly throne and the other son of man turns it over to him and he gets to rule the heavens and earth eternally you might come along and that wouldn't ....

Oh forget it. You wouldn't understand.

13. What if some trigger happy cop
comes unglued if Suzie Sweetcheeks with the Mt.Paran Marching Band drops her baton - then fires into a bunch of teen-agers with an Uzi?

The thousands of cops are going to catch the paranoia that the government is demonstrating. Every one of them is going to be scared to death that something is going to happen - and every one of them is going to have an itchy trigger finger. If a balloon pops they are likely to go off themselves.

This is going to make Kent State look like a retirement party.

17. Mike Malloy actually addressed this last night.
During a moment of clarity*, he hypothesized that this may be to protect people passing by the reviewing stand from accidentally being sniped by the secret service should even the slightest out-of-the-ordinary thing happen (like a marching band member turns to look).

*No, I'm really not a fan.

I know, they should stay home but most of them have worked hard to get to the Inaugural. I can see it now...high school students marching in a band...they get to the reviewing stand and the one reason they're there is the President of the United States (even though he's a fuckwit)...they have waited the whole parade to catch a glimpse of him...and they can't even LOOK at him??? This is assinine! Beyond assinine. I sure hope the Secret Service isn't trigger happy!

This sounds more and more like a disaster in the making.

"And the meanest, ugliest, nastiest one, the meanest father raper of them all, was coming over to me and he was mean 'n' ugly 'n' nasty 'n' horrible and all kind of things and he sat down next to me
and said, "Kid, whad'ya get?" I said, "I didn't get nothing, I had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage." He said, "What were you arrested for, kid?" And I said, "Littering." And they all moved away from me on the bench there, and the hairy eyeball and all kinds of mean nasty things, till I said, "And creating a nuisance." And they all came back, shook my hand, and we had a great time on the bench, talkin about crime, mother stabbing, father raping, all kinds of groovy things that we was talking about on the bench."

Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 03:46 PM by KoKo01
All of us were looking at him. The "SS" had put us behind a barricade for Protestors Only, but when the Limo went buy I saw him. He was quite scary looking. He had a grin on his face and was way down in the seat of the Limo, so he looked very small. But the grin was creepy and maybe made more so by the tint on the glass. I'll never forget it. He was total closed up in that Limo and it was a day when he could have had the window down and waved at the crowd.

We later learned that he had made a stop in one of the developments which had been "pre-screened" by the "SS" where he got out and bought some lemonade from some kids who had set up a stand. But, what I saw that day was folks waiting for hours in over 95 degree heat just to see him...and the Limo sped by.

BTW: It's hard to know which Limo he's in because there are SUV's and they kind of shield the Presidential Limo on all side. There were two limo's, I believe and you had to be looking at just the right spot to even see him. Imperial is the word for that guy!

38. I was in DC for a national meeting where Clinton was the
keynote speaker in 1995. This was a low point for his presidency and his popularity was taking daily hits from the right. We still had the 1996 elections coming up and his re-election was still kind of dicey. The vast majority of the crowd was Republican, Clinton-hating small business owners who blamed "big" government for every woe that they had ever had in the last 200 years.

Before the speech we all had to go through metal detectors but that was the extent of the security that stood out besides the ever present secret service near at hand. Clinton gave an excellent speech, blew the roof off, charmed the masses. After the speech The Big Dog himself headed right into the crowd, no rope lines, shook hands, posed for pictures, laughed and cut up with the crowd. He wasn't afraid of his constituents - even the ones who hated him.

I'll never forget one of the leaders of our state group - an especially ardent Clinton hater - turn around to me and said, "I'll be damned, that son of bitch is going to be re-elected!" He just so connected with the crowd you couldn't ignore it. People loved the guy. She was pissed because she had been so sure that he would never get a second term.

Bush is afraid of his own shadow and his Napoleonic complex is raging out of control. He is safe from me - the last thing I want to do is see his ugly, smirking face. I'd look down an outhouse hole and enjoy the view before I'd willing look at the jerk (unless he is doing the perp walk - then I'd pop popcorn and assemble a crowd).
