Lithium in water supply....Is this for real or does the DoD want us to
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 03:25 PM by EVDebs
do it to stay 'happy' and vote Republican ?

This link suggests that 'we' should add it to our water supplies...
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_249/ai_114820666

Texas studies indicate "Statistically significant relationships were found between more lithium in tap water and urine and fewer homicides, mental hospital admissions, accompanied by fewer diagnoses of psychosis, neurosis, schizophrenia, and personality disorder. (2)"

This may indicate why Texans voted Bush into office in the first place, they're just naturally in a happier mood, and under the influence of too much litium in their water supplies !

But this link shows toxic effects of too much litium...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_salt

So, DUer's, if you show these symtoms:

"Signs that lithium levels within the body are too high include: confusion, diarrhea, lethargy, severe tremors, and/or an upset stomach",

it could be a signal that secret government plans to alter the mood of Blue State America are in effect. Possibly switching to bottled water NOW to avert Bush-assisted 'happiness' should be implemented !

1. I don't know about your conclusion . . .
It looks to me from reading that article that lithium might just be a non-essential but highly valuable nutrient. The Townsend Letter is a highly respected alternative health publication. I doubt highly that this has anything to do with any type of conspiracy.

2. Lithium is usually prescribed for bipolar disorder, but patients have
to be monitored closely because of toxicity. Throwing it in the water supply for people of all ages would be irresponsible, and would probably result in health damage for some. (Not to say that would dissuade the people we're talking about here...)

3. Bush doesn't really care about us so he'd have no problem...
with this "Mengeles Solution".

4. It doesn't put people in a happy mood
it stabilizes the moods of people with bipolar illness. It can be toxic in high doses, but I'm not sure that much could get into the water supply.

6. Good thing we have national health care
"Those who use lithium should receive regular blood tests and should monitor the thyroid and kidney for toxic damage."

7. Yes
My mother had kidney damage from lithium prescribed to her before they realized how high a dose was a high dose.

8. The amount they are talking about
. . . is far far less than a pharaceutical dose. It's what is found naturally in many different locations. Certainly not toxic. BTW, any mineral in high enough doses is toxic, as is plain old water. You all can take off those tin-foil hats on this one.

9. That's what I figured
Didn't think that much could be in the water supply.

11. I have bipolar disorder and used to take lithium.
It had tons of side effects for me, even the dosage I was on was barely in the "therapeutic range." I gained 50 lbs the first 3 months, my thyroid gland was blasted and I'll be on thyroid from now on, I had hand tremor, I had bouts of acne, I would suffer from heat prostration and muscle weakness. I got my first tooth cavity in over 35 years and had to wear titanium glasses frames because the regular ones would corrode. Not only that, it only took away my high moods leaving me suicidally depressed. Thank goodness anti-seizure medications work much, much better to regulate my mood.

Women who are in their first trimester of pregnancy or breast feeding are encouraged strongly to stop taking lithium. Also people with kidney problems shouldn't take it since it's excreted through the kidneys. I think even a low-dose amount would be harmful for people in these groups.

I doubt that any of this would stop our government from adding it to our drinking water but there you go.

13. Too bad lithium isn't a drug
It's actually a mineral, like iron or zinc, that occurs naturally in the earth's crust.

FYI

14. Texans will follow repukes to hell w/ or w/o drugs
..well, the Texas repukes will, anyway. TX dems know better.

2 yrs ago when our state lawmakers convened the state was $10 billion in the red..yes, billion. Did that wake Texans up? Did they connect the dots and realize that it is the repukes that did this? Noooo....they just kept re-electing the fools and the TX newspapers kept endorsing them. Did any of them catch a clue when chimp was asked in Nov. 2000 about the the failing TX economy under his regime? When a reporter asked him how he would explain it to the state lawmakers when they convened in Jan. 2001, chimp said "I hope NOT TO BE HERE THEN".

The legislators are back <they only meet every 2 yrs> this week and we now have a couple hundred million extra in the state coffers but with all the problems that need to be addressed, it might there might as well be only a ten dollar surplus.

On a brighter note, the Dallas Morning News is tanking with it's ad sales since it has been exposed for hyping it's circulation numbers...maybe it will be payback for them endorsing all these repuke fools over the years!
